Conroy to remain with Flames as Sabres expected to make Botterill next GM (NHL)

Follow me on Twitter @ToddCordell …‹ About a week ago it seemed like Brad Treliving's days as GM of the Calgary Flames were numbered. Ownership was not pleased with the way things ended this season and there were rumblings they'd move on from Treliving and hand the keys to Craig Conroy.

That obviously didn't happen as the Flames (smartly) signed Treliving to a contract extension. While the Flames were working on his deal, Craig Conroy interviewed for the GM vacancy in Buffalo and appeared to be a serious candidate.

After all the talk about Conroy potentially leaving, it looks like he'll be staying put as Jason Botterill is expected to be named GM of the Sabres within the next few days.

So, in a short period of time, the Flames went from possibly letting Treliving go, to possibly losing Conroy to the Sabres, to keeping both. That's certainly good news as the team has really made strides with them driving the ship.

Treliving recently addressed the possibility of Conroy leaving during an interview on Tim and Sid (which I searched for but couldn't find archived) and couldn't say enough good things about Conroy's work ethic, how good of a person he is, and how much the work he's done behind the scenes has helped the team.

Treliving has clearly loved working with Conroy and, luckily for him, it appears he'll get to do so for at least another year.
