Close, but no cigar - Part IV: Learning from history (maple leafs)

For the latest Leafs updates or on Twitter The first three days of May marked significant anniversaries in Toronto Maple Leafs history. May 2nd marked the 53rd anniversary of the Leafs last Cup victory over Montreal, while May 1st and 3rd were the 27th anniversaries of the Leafs 4-3 OT victory over the Detroit Red Wings in Game 7 of the first round in the 1993 Stanley Cup Playoffs and Doug Gilmour’s wraparound double-overtime winner in Game 1 of the series against the St. Louis Blues. Toronto has not reached the Cup Final since 1967, but have reached the Final Four five times (1978, 1993, 1994, 1999 and 2002). After looking at the three groups that were legitimate Cup contenders, it is clear that there is a common thread in all of them where they were deficient.
