The Carolina Hurricanes played their final game of the regular season tonight, winning 6-3 over the New Jersey Devils.

The Hurricanes came out strong with goals from Ethan Bear, Martin Necas and Jesperi Kotkaniemi putting them up 3-0 and while Fabian Zetterlund got the Devils on the board before the end of the first period, the Hurricanes took a 3-1 lead into intermission. Carolina then followed up with a strong second period, where they limited the Devils to just six shots, while Teuvo Teravainen scored Carolina’s fourth goal as the only tally of the period.

Carolina didn’t let up at the start of the final frame, with Steven Lorentz and Jordan Martinook both picking up goals to make it 6-1. While Jesper Bratt and Jimmy Vesey both scored late in the game, resulting in a more respectable score, the Hurricanes still took a 6-3 victory.

The line of Jordan Martinook, Jesper Kotkaniemi and Martin Necas was great offensively, with each forward on the line picking up a goal. Antti Raanta also faced some good chances early on and had to be sharp.

So with the win, the Hurricanes end the regular season on a six-game win streak, carrying momentum into the playoffs. The Hurricanes also set a franchise record for most regular season wins, with their 54th victory of the year tonight. We still don’t know who their first round opponent will be, given that the Boston Bruins won and Tampa Bay Lightning lost, leaving the matchups down to how games turn out tomorrow.

In other news, the tandem of Frederik Andersen and Antti Raanta also clinched the Jennings Trophy, as the goalies who’ve played at least 25 games on the team which has allowed the fewest goals.
