The Calgary Flames have signed Marek Hrivek to a one-year, two-way contract.
The 6'2', 200-pound Slovakian winger spent the last few seasons with the New York Rangers organization. He's always been a productive player at the AHL level and he did show well during his stint with the big club this season, although he had just two points in 16 games to show for it.
The sample size was small but the Rangers controlled 56% of the shot attempts with Hrivek on the ice at full-strength. If not anything else, he can at least hold his own in a depth role at the NHL-level.
Whether Hrivek breaks camp with the team remains to be seen but I think this was a worthwhile addition for the Flames.
