The Bruins continued their organizational tour of shutting bogus David Pastrnak rumors down on Wednesday, as Bruins CEO Charlie Jacobs joined WEEI's Dale and Holley with Keefe to talk about the team’s plans for restricted free agent David Pastrnak.
“There certainly was no intention to trade David,… Jacobs, who opted for a more detailed explanation than Don Sweeney did yesterday, told WEEI.
“Our intent is to sign David to a long-term extension.…
Jacobs also had thoughts as to why this rumor made its rounds in the first place, blaming the boredom that comes with August for the rumors.
“I think by virtue of it being the middle of August, some of the writers may feel compelled and come up with something interesting to sell a paper perhaps,… Jacobs offered, “I wanted to ask Brian Lawton who his source was, but I’m not sure he’d give it up.…
But the source would be irrelevant, either way, as it was not based in anything factual.
“We certainly haven’t had any discussions with any other teams about trading David,… Jacobs said. “The only discussions that we’ve had are between David and David’s agent, and frankly conveying just what I shared with you, that our intention is to sign him to a long-term deal.
"When I say long term, six or more years, that’s on our radar.…
Pastrnak set career-highs in goals (34), assists (36), and points (70) last season, and the Bruins currently have over $10 million in cap space left to re-sign the 21-year-old.
