Spoke to a good NHL team source today about Pastrnak and was told the Bruins have told teams who've been kicking tires about their willingness to trade the restricted free agent that they are not interested in trading him right now. However, there might come a point where they will all least listen to offers and consider their options.
The feeling here is that a new deal gets done, even if it is a bridge deal. The preference on both sides is still a long-term deal. More and more NHL teams have been steering away from those and trying to lock up their young RFAs in long-term deals that save cap money down the road. In this case, though, it might end up being a short-term compromise that could raise the price on his third NHL contract.
A trade seems to be the last option here. The longer the negotiation goes unresolved, though, trade talks could enter the picture. I was told that Boston absolutely would not even think about anything that could be deemed a lowball offer. Any trade would have to bring an established rising young NHL star in return. Not many of those to go around, but such trades are always the most fun to debate for years to come.
Stay tuned....
