Remember when then-Avalanche goalie Reto Berra hurt his ankle while kicking a soccer ball in a Pepsi Center hallway two seasons ago?

Knocking a ball around has become a pregame ritual for NHL players, and it wasn't the first time a professional athlete has been hurt in a non-game situation.

Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie has joined the list.

Hockey Canada tweeted Wednesday that Barrie would miss the remainder of the IIHF World Championship tournament because of a lower-body injury.

Turns out, he sustained a lacerated leg while wrestling with a teammate at the Team Canada hotel in Paris.

Seriously, wrestling?

Barrie was having an excellent tournament, too. He had seven points (two goals, five assists) in three games, tying him with Avalanche teammate Nathan MacKinnon and Carolina's Jeff Skinner for the team lead.

At least Barrie has more than enough time to heal and get ready for training camp in September.

Berra wasn't so fortunate. The original prognosis was that he'd miss 8-10 days after getting hurt Dec. 21, 2015, but he never played another game for the Avalanche, helping to pave the way for Calvin Pickard's emergence.

Berra eventually went to San Antonio on a conditioning assignment and was traded last summer to Florida for Rocco Grimaldi.

As expected, Dynamo Moscow defenseman Andrei Mironov should be signing with the Avalanche soon.

Mironov, 22, was the Avalanche's fourth-round pick (No. 101) in the 2015 NHL draft. He played the past five seasons for Dynamo Moscow in the Kontinential Hockey League and is playing for Russia in the World Championship tournament.
