Are the Sharks showing signs of another February swoon? (sharks)

The San Jose Sharks fell to 1-1-2 in the month of February following that ugly 6-3 loss in Boston on Thursday night.

The Sharks are coming off a very strong month of January (9-4-3) that concluded with seven wins in eight tries. With their game play reaching another level, it looked like the wins would carry over. Especially after cruising to a 4-1 win over Vancouver on Feb. 2.

Not so much...

Since that win it's been anything but easy for Pete Deboer's squad. The Sharks are 0-1-2 and have been outscored 13-9. It's a troubling downward trend and one the Sharks are all too familiar with in the month of February.

Since concluding February of the 2010-11 season with an incredible 11-2-0 record, San Jose has stumbled mightily throughout the second month of the year. Between 2011-12 and the 2014-15 seasons, Los Tiburones were a very guppy-like 14-24-7.

breakdown...

2011-12 - 5-8-1 (lost four in a row) 2012-13 - 2-6-4 (lost seven in row at one point) 2013-14 - 4-2-0 in OLY shortened month 2014-15 - 3-8-2 (lost three in a row three times.)

SJ bucked the trend last season by ending the month with a respectable 8-4-2 record. By the looks of it, that may be an anomaly as the Sharks have looked anything but ferocious during this current streak. Not much is going well, but special teams have been frustratingly nightmarish. The Sharks are 1 of 9 with the man advantage in the last three games, while allowing five power play goals against. Not. Good. At. All.

Is there something to this Valentine's swoon or have I written them off too soon? Let me know what you think.

Luckily for us, February IS the shortest month of the year.

ICYMI for Thursday's loss...

- Thornton has 1,375 points in his NHL career, passing Mike Modano for 23rd on the all-time list.

- Justin Braun registered the 100th point of his career with goal vs. Boston.

- Martin Jones allowed three goals on 12 shots (vs. BOS) before he was pulled. It was the second time this season Jones have been given the hook.

- Timo Meier scored his third goal of the season in the loss.

- Despite the three-game losing streak, the Sharks are 6-2-2 in their last 10 and remain two points ahead of the Anaheim Ducks fir first in the Pacific.
