What Should Happen To Those Involved?

The last 24 hours are 24 hours the NHL will never forget. Let's hope not at least.

While it feels wrong to assign how guilty certain parties were before each gets to tell their own story, the interview last night from Kyle Beach hit to the core of our sport and our society as a whole. Kyle’s courage is unquestionable and his interview with Rick Westhead should be shown to every high school age sports team in the country. I would not at all be surprised if there were athletes watching last night who now find the strength to speak up regarding similar situations which until now have just gripped them in fear.

The NHL will meet with Quenneville today and Cheveldayoff Monday in order for each man to explain what they feel happened. From there the Panthers and Jets will have to look at those testimonies and make some very real decisions.

In the end this is a league that constantly preaches accountability. I can’t tell you the amount of times I have heard a coach or GM say that they are responsible for EVERYTHING. They will even tell you it doesn’t matter if they know a situation completely. That it is on them. It is THEIR responsibility TO know the situation. They need to live up to that talk.

I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that kind of language moving forward…either from the people involved directly or their current organizations.

I don’t get the sense the NHL will suspend either for “x” number of games, I think this situation falls too far BEYOND an action that merits some sort of punishment tied to future games. I also believe the NHL is likely to pass this back to each team with only a recommendation. The NHL doesn’t generally get involved with team personnel decisions….although this time very well could prove the exception to that rule.

We know one thing. We need resolution soon. The NHL needs to help in the healing process of Beach and potentially many others out there in the shadows afraid that speaking up could cost them their careers…or worse their souls…

What do you think needs to happen?
