The New York Islanders played three games last week and signed a forward to a one-year contract. Here’s a recap of news and notes from the week.

ISLANDERS WIN ONE OF THREE GAMES

The Islanders won one of their three games this week, falling to the Washington Capitals on Tuesday, before splitting the first two games of their series against the Philadelphia Flyers.

LEE OUT FOR SEASON

The Islanders received some rough news this week, as it was revealed forward Anders Lee will need knee surgery and will miss the rest of the season. Lee had 12 goals and 19 points in 27 games this season and is expected to be ready for the start of the 2021-22 season.

ISLANDERS SIGN GOLYSHEV

New York was finally able to sign forward Anatolii Golyshev this week, agreeing to a contract for the remainder of the season. Golyshev was selected by the Islanders in the 2016 NHL Draft and has spent his entire career in Russia.

As for our poll questions, here are the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out.

QUESTION: With Anders Lee injured, should the Islanders look to trade for a forward?

(Votes: 107)

Yes: 64%
No: 36%

I’m actually surprised the vote was this close. While I’m not a fan of the Islanders continuing to move future assets, I do think this is potentially a different case and I’d be pretty surprised if New York doesn’t add a forward before the deadline.

QUESTION: What should the Islanders be willing to give up for a rental forward?

(Votes: 184)

2nd Round Pick: 51%
1st Round Pick + other assets: 25%
1st Round Pick: 14%
None of the above: 10%

It seems like there’s a split in philosophy here between those who are hoping the team does what it takes to acquire a difference-maker and those who don’t want to part with key assets. The Islanders are helped by the extra second-round pick they have this year and in my opinion, the price they should be willing to pay should be dictated by who’s available.

QUESTION: What do you think Anatolii Golyshev’s long-term role will be with the Islanders?

(Votes: 117)

Bottom-six forward: 44%
Middle-six forward: 32%
Doesn’t make/stay in the NHL: 21%
Top-six forward: 4%

I can’t say I’ve seen much of Golyshev, other than mostly through clips. At least statistically, however, it seems as though Golyshev fits the range as a potential third-line forward.
