The New York Islanders’ schedule for the 2020-21 season was released this week and we also found out that the team expressed interest in a notable free agent this offseason. On top of that, the World Juniors started and features two Islanders prospects. Here are the updates for the week:
ISLANDERS' 2020-21 SCHEDULE RELEASED
The Islanders’ 56-game schedule for the 2020-21 season was released this week. The Islanders will open the season on Nov. 14 against the New York Rangers.
WORLD JUNIORS UPDATE
The Islanders only have two players competing at the World Juniors this year, however, both of their respective teams opened up the tournament with a win. Simon Holmstrom had two assists in Sweden’s first game of the tournament and was very impressive, with a few good chances that he just couldn’t bury as well. Matias Rajaniemi was held off the scoresheet in Finland’s first game.
ISLANDERS SHOWED INTEREST IN ANDREAS ATHANASIOU
According to The Fourth Period, the Islanders were one the teams to show interest in free agent forward Andreas Athanasiou during the offseason. Considering Athanasiou remains a free agent, there’s always the chance he could still end up in New York.
As for our poll questions, there was only one question since the last recap, so here are the results for it, along with my thoughts.
QUESTION: Do you think the 2020-21 season with be Casey Cizikas' last with the Islanders?
(Votes: 161)
No: 60%
Yes: 40%
Like the results to suggest, I think this could go either way. You have to think the Islanders would like to bring back Cizikas, however, it’ll likely come down to what his price is and what New York’s cap situation is looking like.
