The San Jose Sharks dropped three games over four days, falling to the Florida Panthers, Los Angeles Kings and Colorado Avalanche.

3-2 LOSS TO PANTHERS IN OVERTIME ON TUESDAY

The Sharks struck first against Florida, with Logan Couture redirecting a puck in front. The Panthers responded quickly off a goal from Jonathan Huberdeau but San Jose managed to take back the lead, as Nicolas Meloche was able to sneak a shot through Spencer Knight.

San Jose kept their lead through the second period, up until Frank Vatrano scored early in the third period to tie the game. It looked like Mason Marchment had then put the Panthers ahead for the first time in the game but after the goal was called back, the game went to overtime. In the extra frame, Frank Vatrano blew a one-timer past James Reimer for his second goal of the game, winning it for Florida.

3-0 LOSS TO KINGS ON THURSDAY

After the Sharks were outshot in the opening frame but managed to escape the period with the game still scoreless, Anze Kopitar got the Kings on the board on a power play in the second period, after Brent Burns couldn’t clear the zone. Then a little later, Phillip Danault went to the net to bury a rebound, as the Kings went up by two after 40 minutes.

The Sharks actually did put together a strong final frame, but an empty net goal against was the only tally of the frame, as the Sharks fell 3-0.

5-3 LOSS TO AVALANCHE ON FRIDAY

It looked like the Sharks opened the scoring early in the first period off a goal from Logan Couture, but the call was overturned due to an offside. It came back to bite the Sharks, as goals from Nazem Kadri and Darren Helm put Colorado up 2-0 after the first period.

Things didn’t get much better in the second frame, with Cale Makar making it a 3-0 game only about 30 seconds into the period. Then later, Valeri Nichushkin added to the lead with under five minutes to go in the frame, knocking in a rebound in front after his first chance was stopped. The Sharks did get one back with under a minute left in the period off a tip from Jeffrey Viel, but still went into the second intermission down 4-1.

The Sharks actually did start pull the game back close late, with goals from Rudolfs Balcers and Erik Karlsson making it a one-goal game with not much time to go. Nichushkin buried his second goal of the game into an empty net though, securing a 5-3 win for Colorado.

The three losses set the Sharks back to a 26-27-8 record - putting them below a .500 points percentage.

It was great to see James Reimer get back into the lineup - he was really strong in both his starts since coming back. To me, this is the perfect time to try to capitalize on his value before the deadline, though I think it’s unlikely we see him go anywhere.

The reality is the Sharks aren’t a playoff team anyways and it’ll be more interesting to see if they do anything before the deadline. Jacob Middleton has been rumoured as a potential trade candidate, but we’ll see if anything gets done.

San Jose’s next game comes tomorrow against the Arizona Coyotes,
