Every article, I try to include a poll question for readers to vote on, then review the results from the week’s polls every weekend. Here are this week’s poll results and my thoughts on how they turned out.

QUESTION: Do you think Morgan Geekie will start next season in the NHL?

(Votes: 59)

Yes: 83%
No: 17%

As I noted in my article, I think it’s a great move to start Geekie in the NHL. Playing him as a fourth-line center makes a lot of sense and though it was a very limited sample size, we saw that Geekie is comfortable playing on the fourth line, an area where some young players may not be able to succeed in the beginning. He was great in the AHL this year and he seems to be ready to make the jump to the NHL.

QUESTION: Of Forsling and McKeown, who is more likely to start the year on the Hurricanes’ roster?

(Votes: 93)

McKeown: 39%
Neither: 37%
Forsling: 23%
Both: 2%

I was surprised here to see such a large number of readers saying they don’t think either will be on the roster next season. Assuming Carolina's UFAs on defense don’t return, they’ll have a spot open as a spare, which could be a good way to ease one of them into the NHL. I’d also say there’s definitely a chance the Hurricanes could go with 13 forwards and eight defensemen to start next season, as they don’t have any AHL forwards who could make the jump to become a spare and would probably need to either bring back Brian Gibbons or sign someone cheap in free agency. That only increases the chances that at least one of them is brought up. Of the two though, I do agree that it should be McKeown.

QUESTION: Assuming no trade is made, who do you think will play left wing on the second line next season?

(Votes: 135)

Niederreiter: 50%
Foegele: 26%
Dzingel: 16%
Someone else: 8%

I agree with this one, as Niederreiter has the highest upside when he’s on his game. We saw that when he first came to Carolina and was able to score 30 points in 36 games and while we’re not likely to see that same production from him, he’d have the best production of the three wingers while playing with other quality forwards.
