Every article, I try to include a poll question for readers to vote on, then review the results from the week’s polls every weekend. Here are this week’s poll results and my thoughts on how they turned out.



QUESTION: If Robin Lehner hits free agency, are you in favour of the Hurricanes trying to sign him?

Yes: 85%
No: 15%

The Hurricanes need to improve in goal and as 85 per cent of voters agree, adding Lehner is the perfect opportunity to do it. He’s extremely underrated and is probably a top-10 goalie in the league right now. Maybe that’s a bold statement but the stats speak for themselves. He’s probably not going to require more than a five-year deal and it’s unlikely to be at too high of an AAV. The Hurricanes have the cap space and now’s their chance to make a move.



QUESTION: What are your thoughts on the Chicago Wolves potentially becoming the Hurricanes’ new AHL affiliate?

Don’t like it: 75%
Don’t really care either way: 18%
Like it: 7%

Even though it doesn’t really have a huge impact on the Hurricanes as an NHL team, it’s just kind of frustrating to see this. If you’re a fan of either the Wolves or the Checkers, it’s tough to see a new crop of players come in every once in a while. It makes it difficult to get attached to players or a team and it’s one of the reasons that some AHL teams won’t have many diehard fans. Hopefully in the deal with Carolina, the Wolves are really willing to prioritize developing Hurricanes prospects and don’t just add whoever it takes to be a competitive team in the short-term.



QUESTION: So far, Martin Necas has:

Met expectations: 57%
Surpassed expectations: 35%
Failed to meet expectations: 8%

Necas made a solid transition to the NHL this year. It wasn’t without some pretty bad turnovers or lapses in judgement, especially early on, but he adjusted well as the season continued and he’s going to be a great player for the Hurricanes. Like 92 per cent of voters said, he’s at least met expectations but personally, I’d say he’s further along in his development than many would have expected.
