The Carolina Hurricanes announced today that they’ve signed goaltender Jack LaFontaine to a one-year entry-level contract, which carries a $750,000 cap hit.

LaFontaine was selected by the Hurricanes in the third round of the 2016 NHL Draft.

The 24-year-old has been with the University of Minnesota since 2019 and posted a .900 save percentage in 20 games with the team this year. He also won the Mike Richter Award last season, as the top goaltender in Division I.

LaFontaine should get a pretty good opportunity with the organization right away, with Antti Raanta, Eetu Makiniemi and Beck Warm all currently dealing with injuries.
