We're just four weeks away from the start of the 2026-27 season and there is a ton of excitement among the Montreal Canadiens and their fan base, for good reason. They're fresh off a trip to the Eastern Conference Final, have one of the league's best young cores & prospect pools and are poised to be a threat for many years to come.
For the first time since the 2009-10 season, the Montreal Canadiens will be wearing four jerseys in a single campaign. The traditional home and away jerseys, along with two others that'll be unveiled in the weeks ahead, one for the 2026 Heritage Classic and one for the National Hockey League's Hometown Remix program, which was officially announced last week.
That being said, it feels like the right time to ranking all the uniforms worn in the history of the Montreal Canadiens. From the blue and white sweater worn in 1909, before the National Hockey League was formed, to their last specialty jersey - the sky blue Reverse Retro worn during the 2022-23 campaign.

1) Home Jersey
Staring us off is the Montreal Canadiens' home jersey, which they've worn, albeit with some slight alterations and different logos since the National Hockey League was established in 1917. The colour scheme and logo are a timeless classic and it's one of the most recognizable looks in all of North American professional sports, like the New York Yankees, for example.
2) 1944-1947 White Jersey
Another classic enters the list at number two - the Canadiens' white jersey worn from 1944 to 1947. The Canadiens also wore this uniform as an alternate during the 2006-07 season, becoming their last officially designated third jersey, as well as during the first season they celebrated their centennial in 2008-09. In my opinion, this should become the Canadiens' permanent away jersey and I'd love to see it make a return for the 2026 Heritage Classic in Winnipeg.
3) 2016 Winter Classic
For the Montreal Canadiens' first, and so far only, appearance in the Winter Classic, the club brought back design elements from that 1944-47 sweater, along with a logo that can be seen on their red jerseys from 1922 to 1924. Since the first Winter Classic in 2008, some teams have adopted their outdoor game jerseys as alternates/thirds and while I was hoping the Montreal Canadiens were going to do the same with this look, they unfortunately did not.
4) Away Jersey
The Montreal Canadiens' current away jersey, worn with slight alterations over the last 85 years, comes in at number four on my list. There's nothing particularly special or eye-catching with this jersey, but it's a classic look and one that has been worn by many of the franchise's greats including Henri Richard, Maurice Richard, Jean Beliveau, Guy Lafleur, among others.
5) 1915-16 Red Jersey
The 1915-16 season is one that means a lot in the history of the Montreal Canadiens. Montreal finished the NHA's regular season with 16 wins, seven losses and a tie in 24 games, earning them first place in the league and a trip to the Stanley Cup Final against the Portland Rosebuds. Montreal defeated Portland in the best-of-five series three games to two, capturing their first Stanley Cup in franchise history. Montreal brought this jersey back during the first year of their centennial celebration.
6) 1909 Blue Jersey
In 1909-10, the Montreal Canadiens began play in the National Hockey Association. It was a tough year for the club, finishing the campaign with two wins, ten losses and 100 goals allowed in 12 games, which saw them finish last in the NHA standings. That year, the Canadiens wore a blue and white jersey, with a white C on the front. Montreal would bring this jersey back as part of the second season of their centennial celebration in 2009-10.
7) 1910 Red with Green Leaf Jersey
For their second season in existence, the Montreal Canadiens turned to what is now the primary colour on their home jerseys - red. In addition to their first red jersey in franchise history, the uniform has green and white, along with logo that features an old English style C inside a green leaf. Much like their inaugural jerseys, this one was brought back in year two of the Canadiens' centennial.
8) 1912 Barber Pole Jersey
Often dubbed one of the worst jerseys in hockey history, during the 1912-13 season, the Canadiens wore a bold barber pole style jersey with red, white and blue stripes and a white leaf on the front. Inside of the leaf were the letters CAC, which stood for Club Athletique Canadien. The barber pole jersey worn again on February 1st, 2008 against the Boston Bruins. White some think it's the worst Canadiens jersey ever, I quite enjoy it, personally.
9) Reverse Retro 1.0
In the fall of 2020, as they were trying to figure out plans for their 2021 season amid the coronavirus pandemic, the NHL, in collaboration with adidas, announced a league-wide jersey program called "Reverse Retro", which saw teams put a unique spin on a classic, or in Montreal's case a current, uniform. The Canadiens kept it pretty simple for their Reverse Retro 1.0 jersey, simply inverting their colour scheme for a predominantly blue sweater.
10) NHL 100 Classic
In December of 2017, the National Hockey League hosted an outdoor game in Ottawa between the Senators and Montreal Canadiens to celebrate their centennial. The game, dubbed the NHL 100 Classic saw both clubs utilize the colour silver and as we know, aside from 2016, the Canadiens don't really go all out with their outdoor game jerseys. A plain white jersey with red, blue and silver striping. While it was fairly uninspiring, one pretty neat element to this jersey is that in the silver band on the sleeves was each of the years that the Canadiens won the Stanley Cup.
11) Reverse Retro 2.0
The NHL and adidas released a second version of the Reverse Retro series during the 2022-23 season and the Canadiens drew inspiration from the city's baseball past for their jersey. Montreal wore a sky blue coloured uniform, in the same style as their home jersey, paying homage to the Expos, who wore the same colour on their road jerseys from 1969 through 1991.
12) 1924 Globe Jersey
After winning the Stanley Cup in 1924 over the Calgary Tigers, the Montreal Canadiens wore a new jersey for the following season. This new jersey saw the club move their famous CH logo to the sleeve, opting for a globe on the front with a "CHAMPION" wordmark at the bottom of that globe. The jersey was worn for one year before Montreal went back to the CH on the front.
13) 1935 & 1938 White Jerseys
For the first time in franchise history, the Montreal Canadiens introduced a predominantly white jersey. This uniform, which make its debut in 1935, was worn to avoid colour clashing with the Detroit Red Wings, according to NHL Uniform Database. Montreal wore the first version of this jersey, which had blue and red striping near the collar, from 1935 to 1938, before ditching those stripes from 1938 to 1941.
Not Ranked: 2003 Heritage Classic (no different than home jerseys worn in team history) and 2011 Heritage Classic (no different than white jerseys worn in team history).
