The Detroit Red Wings secured a crucial pair of points after defeating the Montreal Canadiens at home in a 3-1 win. Alex DeBrincat had a three point outing on the same night as his 100th goal in a Red Wings uniform, scoring the go-ahead goal late in the third period. With the win, the Red Wings maintained their playoff position and are now tied with the Habs for points.
Cat burgled
The Red Wings traded for the 5'8" winger from the Ottawa Senators, parting with a package that included Dominik Kubalik, a first round pick, and Donovan Sebrango. Now, the "Cat" as teammates often refer to him, has reached 100 goals in 233 games with the organization, matching Sergei Fedorov.
Since the trade, DeBrincat has had more points in the winged wheel each year than he did in his sole season with Ottawa. DeBrincat has 72 points this season, with 34 goals and 38 assists in 69 games. DeBrincat has had at least a point in all but one of the last ten games for the Red Wings, including a three assist outing against the Calgary Flames in their last game.
That pace has helped him to retake the team lead in points, with Lucas Raymond trailing behind at 67. DeBrincat was only behind Raymond in points last year, though DeBrincat has led the team the past two years in goal scoring, with a 5 goal margin on the Red Wings' next leading scorer, Dylan Larkin.
