Montembeault Bounces Back in a Big Way (NHL News)

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

He's baaaaaack!

With all the struggles Montembeault has had to begin the 2025-2026 season, he needed a big game to show everyone he was still the goalie we all saw last year. And oh man did he deliver. The Habs beat Vegas in an afternoon affair 4-1, and without Monty this could easily have been a regulation loss or an OT game.

He looked calm, composed and was extremely sound positionally in his net. He made several huge saves in the second and first period to keep the Habs on top and give them the opportunity to build on their lead. This is exactly what the Habs need if they want to keep winning hockey games as it looks like both their goaltenders are back on track.

Also, Alex Texier chipped in with a very nice assist on Jake Evan's breakaway goal, showing he has some good finesse and precision with the puck in his first game as a Hab.

Cole Caufield and Slafvovsky both had monster games and were all over the ice. They were both rewarded with 1g and 1a each and Caufiled could have easily had 3-4 goals in the afternoon.

A solid road win against a tough opponent but things are not getting any easier tomorrow. The Habs face the Colorado Avalanche at 3pm with Dobeš getting the start in net.
