Washington, DC... Hello! and some randoms... (nashville)

An excellent hire for the Washington Capitals, good coach, better man. The Nashville community’s loss is the Capital Area’s gain as Washington will get the benefit of having the Trotz family as one of their own. Put all of the hockey stuff aside, this coach knows how to manage a team and adapt his style to the talent the GM gives him, Caps fans will like that… but the best part will be how Coach Trotz and his incredible family will become a part of the community.

Here’s an idea of what you can expect from your new coach Caps fans…

Wednesday Random Playoff Notes

- Want to know what the Predators season could’ve looked like? Take a look at Pekka Rinne’s performance in the recently concluded IIHF World Championships. Think that might’ve been worth the points necessary to make the playoffs??

- Hard to believe it’s been seven years since the Vulture came to town and the attempted move of the franchise that led to Pred Nation’s Summer from Hell.

- Columbus extended the contract of head coach Todd Richards yesterday. He will coach the Jackets through the 2016-17 season.

- Fascinating series developing in the Western Conference finals. Built as a team that reflects failure as anything less than a cup win… the Chicago Blackhawks appear to be on the precipice of failing short again.

- Game six at the United Center should be a dandy. The Kings are hungry and play well on the road, Chicago is pissed and defends home ice well… I am ready for this one!

- What a mess of a hockey game last night, sloppy, undisciplined and almost painful to watch. The New York Rangers gave game five to Montreal on a tarnished silver platter, and the Habs almost refused the gift.

- Ranger’s John Moore got a call from the league disciplinary office, he has a hearing today. His hit on Dale Weise in last night’s game should draw the rain.

- If Montreal expects Henrik Lundqvist to give up four goals again, they need to check their expectations.

- First captain of the Predators, Tom Fitzgerald has interviewed for the vacant GM position in Pittsburgh. He joins a long list of candidates.

- Stick Tap to ProHockeyTalk for the line of the day yesterday, their headline “MacLellan basically pulled a Costanza to get Caps job… is a classic. This, of course, referred to the new Caps GM truth telling to owner Ted Leonsis in his GM interview.

- Stick tap to Elliotte Friedman who called MacLellan’s hiring in Washington in his 30 Thoughts column early Monday.

- Negotiations in Minnesota for head coach Mike Yeo look to be verrrrrrry interesting. Yeo was on the hot seat going into the playoffs… knocking off the 2 seed cooled that chair considerably. Now, speculation is that Yeo wants a hefty raise. This one bears watching…

- Longtime NHL’er Sandis Ozolinsh has officially retired after a 15 year NHL career and a five year stint in the KHL.
