Raffi Torres is suspended pending discipline hearing for hit on Jakob Silfverberg last night. Torres received a Match penalty.
— Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) October 4, 2015The hit that Dreger is talking about was one with no really good angle of the impact to determine whether or not it was a hit straight to the head. That is beside the point, though, because it was a stupid, filthy hit anyway.
Torres charged across the ice at full speed on his imaginary knees with no intention on playing any sort of hockey. He was steamrolling Silfverberg. That was his goal and he was handed a match penalty for his antics.
Not only did the Sharks have this waste of space in the lineup - and seen by many as a lock for the roster - but they gave him an 'A' for the night! Raffi Torres! An assistant captain! I don't really care what the roster makeup looked like last night, Raffi Torres is the last person that should have a letter on his jersey.
What comes of Torres' stupid hit with regards to suspension has yet to be determined as Dreger's tweet indicates, but his lengthy suspension history isn't going to yield him a light punishment.
Here's the hit from Sportsnet:
