The Blues finalized their roster yesterday by cutting four players, trimming the roster to just 23 players.
Robby Fabbri, who had a very impressive camp, made it to the last round of cuts, but was finally sent back to the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League.
Meanwhile, Chris Butler, Dmitrij Jaskin, and Petteri Lindbohm were sent down to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League. Lindbohm, who was originally going to go back to Finland, opted for the AHL instead, a move the Blues probably preferred.
However, as one player decides that the AHL is his best route back to the NHL, another decides that Europe has better options for him. That is why Peter Mueller was placed on waivers yesterday for the purpose of terminating his contract with the Blues.
Mueller was waived last week and went unclaimed, when the Blues decided he was to be sent to the AHL, Mueller apparently had no plans to go back to the AHL, and he refused his assignment.
So now if he clears waivers again today, which he likely will, Doug Armstrong will speak with him about staying one more time. If he refuses assignment again, he will have his contract terminated.
