It was Hockey Fights Cancer Night at the Bridge last night as the Predators tangled with the St. Louis Blues… dropping a 4-0 decision that frankly, wasn’t indicative of the effort or the play. Nashville poured 45 shots on Blues goaltender Jake Allen and just couldn’t get one to go… The 45 shots on net didn’t include the six… count ‘em … SIX posts that the Preds hit… they were working the iron so much that Local 492 was looking to collect union dues after the game. You had the feeling throughout the second and third periods that if the Preds could just get one, the floodgates would open.
That, obviously, didn’t happen.
As most observers have pointed out, the key to last night’s game was 1:20 of 5-on-3 at the end of the second period that the Predators could not convert. Full marks to St. Louis, they played the perfect road game and appear to have survived their rash of injuries quite nicely thank you. Kevin Shattenkirk is now back in the lineup and that only helps this team.
The homestand continues this week with a trio of Canadian teams, Tuesday versus Ottawa, Thursday versus Toronto , then Saturday has the Winnipeg Jets in town for HNIC and a 6pm start time.

Random Notes
- Adam Vingan had an interesting factoid in his “5 Takeaways… in this morning’s Tennessean. Preds broadcaster Chris Mason is the only other goaltender in Blues history to make at least 45 saves in a shutout… that was in 2008 against the Preds.
- Last night’s shot total was the second highest of the season, the Preds tracked 47 shots in their loss to the New York Islanders on 10/15.
- Another interesting stat… this season, the Preds are 5-0-0 when they are being outshot… 3-2-2 when they outshoot their opponent.
- I was watching Blues rookie defenseman Colton Parayko closely last night… he is making a really good blueline even better… excellent positional defense and the youngster has a wicked wrister.
- Eleven games in the NHL yesterday, four of them shutouts.
- And the current NHL shutout leader is… Carey Price? Nope. Braden Holtby? Nyet… It’s Michal Neuvirth who posted his third shutout of the season last night in Winnipeg.
- If it’s Novemeber, the trade rumors about Patrick Marleau must be starting.
- Big win for Calgary last night, ending Pittsburgh’s six game win streak.
