I want to start off by saying thanks to the whole Dallas Stars organization and fanbase, they could not have made the SlapShot Radio road trip gang feel more at home. The hospitality and the flat out niceness of the Dallas fans that we sat with in Section 334 of the American Airlines Center on Saturday night was just great! The game operations group did a great job and I have to share their “Things to Do This Summer… list that they posted to their JumboTron. 1. Come up with new jokes about Winnipeg 2. Binge watch Game of Thrones 3. Watch the LA Kings defend their Stanley Cup 4. Eat at every food truck in Klyde Warren Park 5. Cheer for whoever is playing against Chicago. So it looks like we have a bunch of Dallas fans on the Pred bandwagon right now!
I have to admit… I wasn’t completely upset with the results on Saturday, especially watching Jamie Benn’s special four point performance to take the Art Ross.
I’ll start my playoff previews tomorrow but for now, here are some random notes for a hockeyless Monday…
- SlapShot Radio is moving to Tuesday, for this week only... and we are moving stations, for this week only. We will be on at 7pm Tuesday evening on 94.9 Game2 in Nashville. Hopkinsville, you can listen in on line…
- The Predators announced the call up of Kevin Fiala, he is practicing with the team today.
- Yesterday began the post regular season bloodletting in the NHL and the Toronto Maple Leafs got it started firing everyone but the Zamboni driver yesterday. Coaches, scouts, GM, Brendan Shanahan cut a wide swath across the organization in desperate need of a rebuild. Hate to see this happen to Peter Horachek, he deserves better.
- The Buffalo Sabres fired Ted Nolan and his coaching staff late yesterday as well… hate to see it, Ted Nolan is an excellent head coach, he was given a real crap sandwich here…
- Wondering who’s next… probably Philly… but I’m betting it may wait until the Detroit Red Wings are eliminated from the playoffs… - There may be an opening in the desert as Dave Tippett may not return to the Coyotes.
- Apparently, Florida agrees with Jaromir Jagr (no “newlywed and nearly dead… jokes please.) He has signed on for another year with the Panthers.
- Let the predictions begin! The Predators may have to relish their underdog role, even as they are the higher seeded team.
- Interesting stat being bandied about… only 16 points separate Seed 1 from seed 16… the lowest gap since expansion.
- I’m sorry… but I ain’t buying the talk out of LA about the players pranking their head coach… doesn’t pass the smell test.
- Speaking of LA… count on Mike Richards being bought out…
- Guess what would have happened to the playoff makeup if we didn’t have the so-called “loser point… – Yup, you guessed it, the exact same teams would make the playoffs.
