NHL SATURDAY & A POTENTIAL DIVORCE (Senators)

You gotta hand it to the NHL - this year they added more hockey to Sundays and most of the weeks have offered us at least the potential to view a triple header on Saturdays.

In the wake of mine and my wife's 11th Anniversary (we didn't get the kids to bed early enough, so by the time we got our bill from Le Lobster Rouge we missed the movies, which didn't really matter because we were just going to see whatever was playing at 10:30 anyways) I figure I got enough credit to devote an entire day of fat-assery to watching an NHL triple-header hockey.

Maybe. Maybe not.

We don't have a pool or a pool-boy, so I think I can risk it.

Here's the schedule for my potentially divorce causing triple header.

Part One: The Afternoon

The NHL scheduling department has given us six choices for the afternoon portion of our event. Or as it is also known, the sober portion - nothing stronger than coffee for these games or I really be by the time we get to the late-night action.

Now, it would be nice if they had spaced things out a bit more, but I'm not going to change out of jogging pants today, so I really can't be complaining about anything.

Nashville vs. Washington: I had a Toby Keith / John Boehner joke lined up for this one, but it was pretty offensive (I guess) so I'll cut it in favour of just saying I won't be watching this one past the start of the Coyotes vs Penguins.

Now, I always love watching Penguins games - hopefully Malkin is back for real this time - and after being embarrassed by the Hurricanes on Thursday, they are probably going to destroy the Coyotes, who are on a season high two game winning streak.

This game will likely occupy most of my attention, but I'll be checking in to see if the Rangers can ruin Boston's season or if Tampa can hopefully do the same to the Red Wings. I'd love Ottawa to get in so, I'll be cheering against Detroit and Boston for the foreseeable future.

For some reason, the NHL doesn't have any games scheduled after 2 pm until 7:00, so I'll use this time to visit with Puff Daddy and the Fam and also to head to the Beer Store and maybe cook dinner.

Part Two: The Evening

The only game that matters here is the Leafs vs Ottawa. I won't be cheering for the Leafs - and this is far worse than any Sabres fans cheering for the Coyotes because I live in Toronto and cheering for the Senators.....man that's worse than liking a certain PM whose name shall not be mentioned (i.e the Canadian Voldermort).

Where I live, cheering for the Sens is a mortal sin. But tonight, I think it's OK since we can help the Leafs draft higher and have the Sens make the Playoffs. And, jokes aside, their run to the Playoffs is probably the coolest thing to happen to the NHL in some time, so I'm hoping for a happy ending.

Hopefully they don't get idiotic and start playing Anderson again though. Hammond should play every game until the end of the season and that's that.

As an aside, I hope to be watching this game live so that I can switch between it and the L.A game where they will be taking on the Wild - a team that luckily played last night. Should the Kings win tonight, they will have a great advantage of the Flames.

Part Three: Late Night

Dallas and Vancouver? Seriously?

That's the nightcap? Man, I hope I still feel like watching this game when it comes around. I don't really have strong feelings one way or the other about the Canucks, and the Stars are out of it.

I can't believe the NHL only has one game on the west coast tonight - tres disappointing. Too bad the Kings are in Minnesota and the Oilers and Flames are off. I don't know why, but I've never really enjoyed the Canucks.

Still, Benn and Seguin are always worth watching and I'd like to see LA get in so I guess I'm a Dallas fan, starting tonight at ten.

I've only been able to make it through one other triple-header this year so far, so I am hoping this one goes well.

And if I can't stomach the Canucks game when the time comes around? Well, I think Taken 3 might be available on Demand.

I wish you all a super lazy and hockey filled Saturday.

Thanks for reading.
