First off… Happy Father’s Day to dads everywhere! Here are your Random Hockey and More Notes for a Sunday…
- We had a great time on the SlapShot Radio Field Trip last night at First Tennessee Park. The Nashville Sounds couldn’t have been more welcoming. If you haven’t had a chance to see the new ballpark at Sulpher Dell, you need to check it out. Check out the pictures from the event at SlapShotRadio Facebook page.
- This week’s SSR will have you ready for the draft… join us!
- Information is emerging about the civil lawsuit filed on Thursday in US District Court against pending UFA Mike Ribeiro. I have a feeling his one will get uglier before it gets better.
- Still no preseason schedule announcement from the Preds, it does appear that the NHL regular season schedule will be released on Thursday… but that is a tentative date.
- Interesting stuff on Puck Daddy, Josh Cooper discusses offer sheets on RFA’s and the generational turnover happening in NHL GM’s. Here's the link. The Pred connection, of course, is the Flyers offer sheet to Shea Weber that Nashville matched a few years back.
- The rumors of Shane Doan and the Predators continue to swirl. He could be a good fit in Nashville.
- The other rumors about Phil Kessel have been completely shot down with some folks that I have spoken to.
- You have to wonder if the prices Toronto is asking for moving some of their core players… Phaneuf, Kessel, Lupul, etc. is just too high.
- I am watching the cap situation in Chicago… there are rumors breaking that the cap may come in under $70 million. That could be BIG problems for the Stanley Cup champs. The $71 million number is problematic enough for the Hawks, if it comes in a 68 or 69… then more will have to be moved. Watch this one closely…
- You have to appreciate the complete makeover going on in Edmonton. It continued yesterday with the firing their head of amateur scouting and their head of professional scouting, along with several amateur scouts. The problems are being addressed in Edmonton, this will be a team to be reckoned with, sooner… not later.
- The City of Glendale doesn’t seem to get along with anybody… their rocky relationship with the Arizona Cardinals is well documented, now reports are coming out about the “contentious relationship… between the city and the Coyotes have been going on for the past six months.
- My Sunday “must-read… is Elliotte Friedman’s 30 thoughts column on the Sportsnet.ca. He talks free agency and expansion… it is always insightful and entertaining.
