It’s Game Night in Smashville as the Nashville Predators host the Ottawa Senators for an Election Day tilt at Bridgestone Arena. Ottawa is off to a decent start to the season, currently in 3rd position in the Atlantic with 14 points. The Predators are at the bottom of the Central, but a win tonight would tie them with Dallas for 4th and the last playoff spot.
Nashville had a 90 minute long practice yesterday, up tempo, hard skating… the kind of practice you have when the coach is trying to send a message about work… consistent, hard, work. The other news to come out of yesterday’s practice, Anthony Bitetto took the ice for the first time, albeit in a non-contact jersey and Mike Fisher did not practice yesterday and is still considered day-to-day with an upper body injury.
Ottawa is experiencing some of the same issues that Nashville is, lack of finish being primary in that. They have only scored four goals in their last three games but… their goaltending has made sure that this team went 2-1-0 over that span… getting a point per goal is unusual and not sustainable. They will be looking to break out tonight.
In goal, expect Craig Anderson for the Senators who has been off to an outstanding start to the season. His wife’s cancer battle has been in the news lately and even with that on his mind, he has been incredible only giving up three goals in the last 124 shots that he has faced. Pekka Rinne has been solid and even spectacular at times, a reflection of the team’s underwhelming performance so far this young season. However, his sparking .939 save percentage over the past three games portends well for the big Finn.
