It’s a rare Monday night game in Smashville as the Atlantic Division leading Montreal Canadiens are in town for the team’s last game before the NHL’s holiday break. The Habs are looking to snap a three game losing skid, the Preds are looking to win back-to-back games for the first time since mid-November and both teams want to head into the break with a win.
Montreal has been struggling even more than Nashville has, losing seven of their last eight and having real trouble finding the net after a sizzling start to the season. That start has kept the Habs in the division lead but the cushion they built is gone, as they now lead by a single point in the Atlantic. There has been line-juggling, call ups, shake-ups, anything to right the ship… Pred Nation knows the feeling well. Oh… but Hab fans are dealing with something else… the absence of injured Carey Price. Their most valuable player.
The Predators are looking for a little consistency, Saturday’s win over Minnesota was crucial… but no more crucial than winning back-to-back… the offense woke up and the Predators managed to hold a third period lead, again, something that Pred Nation hasn’t been used to seeing over the last five weeks.
The injury situation seems to be improving as Mike Fisher has been skating and is rumored to be close to returning to the lineup, perhaps as early as tonight, but no official word yet as he is still listed on IR.
Limited tickets remain… game time is 7pm. Coverage on 102.5 the Game and Fox Sports Tennessee.

- Shea Weber is tied for the scoring lead for the month of December… not just among defensemen, among all players… he is tied with Vladimir Tarasenko and Johnny Gaudreau.
- The Predators have posted points in seven straight games against the Habs.
- The construction of the Winter Classic rink began shortly after the conclusion of yesterday’s Patriots / Titans game. It will be interesting to watch this one, because the Pats will host a playoff game shortly after the game.
