A huge win at Bridgestone Arena last night for the Nashville Predators, there is no getting around that. Nashville’s 3-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators were two desperately needed points that lifted the Preds out of the Central Division basement.
I what could be described as a mirror match of two teams that have had real problems finishing their chances, it was Nashville that finally broke through, seeming to really fire off a simply stunning save from Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne in the first period. It was vintage Pekka Rinne, who posted an excellent win making save after save after save, 33 of them in all, frustrating the Senators and driving them to distraction in an outstanding performance from the much (mostly unfairly) maligned goaltender.
The other key player? PK Subban, continuing a history of being a real pain in the butt for Ottawa, last night posting the game winning goal and assisting on the first goal. It is fascinating how a win turns a bad patch into a 4 game point streak.
Now the challenge becomes, making this a habit. Developing consistency in performance. That is the next thing, one win does not fix that. Filip Forsberg is still goal-less, but he continues to lead the team in points with 8 assists, tied with PK Subban. Two more games in this homestand to try and get on a roll before heading to Canada next week… the competition ramps up as St. Louis and Anaheim are next.

- No real updates on Mike Fisher who was scratched again last night and continues to be listed as day-to-day
- Is Winnipeg for real? They certainly put it on the Dallas Stars last night, the Preds are don’t see Winnipeg until Black Friday when they begin a home-and-home with the Jets.
- Nashville will see the Senators again next week, Thursday in Ottawa.
- The Sidney Crosby / Connor McDavid matchup certainly lived up to the hype last night… good one in Pittsburgh.
- Three games in the NHL tonight – All times Central – 6pm – ANA @ CBJ. 6:30pm – OTT @ BUF. 7pm – CHI @ STL.
