Report: Bruins to play Blackhawks in 2019 Winter Classic (Boston Bruins)

Be sure to 'like' Hockeybuzz on Facebook! The Bruins are going back outside, and for the third time in nine years. But this time, and for the first time, it will be as a visitor. According to Barstool Sports, the Bruins will skate against the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2019 NHL Winter Classic, which will be held at Notre Dame Stadium, with a formal announcement expected to come later this month (expected to be around the time of the Notre Dame-Navy football game). Home of the Fighting Irish, Notre Dame Stadium seats over 80,000 people, and is located just over 90 miles from Chicago, making this a more-than-doable commute. The Bruins, of course, have a connection to Notre Dame on their roster right now, as first-year pro Anders Bjork was an All-American for the Irish, and helped guide the school to a Frozen Four appearance in 2017. The Bruins have participated in two prior Winter Classic events, their first coming against the Flyers at Fenway Park in 2010, and the other against the Canadiens at Gillette Stadium in 2016. The Blackhawks, meanwhile, have been involved three Winter Classic games to date, but as the home team just once, back in 2009 at Wrigley Field. The Blackhawks have been involved in five outdoor games all together, with two Stadium Series games to their name.
