Brendan Gallagher was finally back in the line-up for the first time since March 17 tonight and he got a goal right off the bat by doing Gally things, in other words, he went to the net and tapped in a rebound. It was the alternate captain’s first goal at the Bell Centre since November 20th, and he must have felt like a huge weight had been taken off his shoulders. Martin St-Louis slotted him in on the 4th line alongside Ylonen and Poehling and the combination dud have a good night. We’ve seen a lot of slow starts from the Habs this season but not tonight, tonight, they came out swinging. 8 minutes in, they led the Sens 8-1 shots wise (although the 2 minutes power play for the unsuccessful goal challenge Ottawa got did help in that respect). The Sens shook it off though and got right back in the game thanks to a Schueneman turnover and both teams went back to the locker-room all tied up at 1.

In the middle frame, both teams scored 2 goals and gave quite a show to a packed Bell Centre. It wasn’t a defensive masterpiece in any way, both sides committing more than their fair share of giveaways, but there was a lot to like about the offensive side of their game. Justin Barron scored his first career goal on a wonderful individual play which showcased his mobility and the fluidity of his skating. He’s not been perfect since he entered the line-up, nor should he have been, he’s only 20 years-old, but that is a modern-day defenseman and even though it’s really early, I’m happy with the return the Habs got for Lehkonen. Cole Caufield also added another goal to his tally, a power play marker that Forsberg should have stopped, but even though it only trickled in, it still counts.

The Sens took the lead early in the third while Nick Suzuki was in the box for a knee-on-knee hit on Tim Stuztle, it wasn’t intentional, but it could have had really bad consequences. The Sens then doubled their lead on a shot which Jake Allen probably would like to see again and the Canadiens just weren’t able to get their groove back after that. It’s a shame because Allen has had so many good games of late, but nobody’s perfect, not even veterans. Ottawa put the final nail in the Habs’ coffin with an empty net goal, on the play, Justin Barron looked like he injured himself, what else is new for the Canadiens right? Final score Ottawa 6 Montreal 3. The Canadiens will now take on the Devils Thursday and the Leafs on Saturday.
Brendan Gallagher était finalement de retour en uniforme ce soir pour la première fois depuis le 17 mars dernier et il a récolté un but dès le départ, en étant fidèle à lui-même, c’est en dire en fonçant au filet pour glisser un retour de lancer derrière le cerbère des Sens. C’était le premier but de l’assistant capitaine au Centre Bell depuis le 20 novembre dernier et ça a semblé lui enlevé tout un poids de sur les épaules. Martin St-Louis l’avait inséré dans la formation sur le 4e trio avec Ylonen et Poehling, la ligne a connu une bonne soirée. Nous avons souvent vu de lents départs de la part du Tricolore cette saison, mais pas ce soir. Non, après 8 minutes de jeu, le CH menait 8-1 au chapitre des tirs au but (bien que le jeu de puissance obtenu par suite de la contestation du but du CH n’ait pas nuit). Les Sénateurs se sont bien repris cependant et ils sont revenus dans le match grâce à un revirement de Corey Schueneman et les deux équipes sont retournées au vestiaire avec une égalité de 1-1.

Dans la période médiane, les deux équipes ont marqué 2 buts et ont donné tout un spectacle à un Centre Bell rempli à craquer. Ce n’était pas un match modèle point de vue défensif loin de là , tant Montréal qu’Ottawa a commis plus que sa part de revirements, mais point de vue offensif, c’était un bon spectacle. Justin Barron a marqué son premier but en carrière sur un superbe jeu individuel faisant état de sa mobilité et de la fluidité qui caractérise son coup de patin. Il n’a pas été parfait depuis son arrive dans l’alignement, il n’a pas à l’être non plus, il n’a que 20 ans, mais il s’agit là d’un défenseur des temps modernes et même s’il est encore très tôt, je suis satisfaite du retour obtenu pour Lehkonen. Cole Caufield a également ajouté un but à sa fiche, même si Forsberg aurait dà» l’arrêter et que la rondelle a à peine franchi la ligne rouge, il compte quand même.

Les Sénateurs ont pris les devant tôt en 3e période alors que Suzuki se trouvait au banc des punitions suite à un contact genou contre genou avec Stutzle, ce n’était pas intentionnel, mais ça aurait pu avoir des conséquences désastreuses. Les Sens ont ensuite doublé leur avance sur un tir que Jake Allen aimerait probablement revoir et le CH n’a pas réussi à retrouver son rythme après ça. Dommage puisqu’il a joué nombre de bons matchs dernièrement, mais personne n’est parfait, pas même les vétérans. Ottawa a mis le dernier clou dans le cercueil des Habs avec un but dans un filet désert, mais pis encore, Justin Barron a semblé se blesser sur le jeu…rien de nouveau sous le soleil pour les Canadiens non? Marque final Ottawa 6 Montréal 3. Le CH affrontera maintenant les Devils jeudi et les Leafs samedi.
