Last night at Bridgestone Arena was a classic preseason matchup between a team with a lot of roster uncertainty against a team that is basically set for opening night, and boy did it show on the scoreboard. Last night’s 4-1 loss to Carolina drew the ire of Predators head coach Peter Laviolette who described the team as “too slow and not competitive enough.…

The Predators came out slow and the young Hurricanes jumped all over them, outworking the Preds at every turn. More speed, more hustle, more everything. To give credit where it is due, the Predators improved as the evening wore on and got some decent chances in the third period, eventually getting a goal from the JoFA line as Ryan Johansen scored the lone goal of the night for Nashville.

The Predators got looks at a few of the players cometing for the last few roster spots as Roman Josi, PK Subban, Craig Smith, Ryan Hartman and Calle Jarnkrok were among the scratches for Nashville.

The Predators have one more preseason game before they start to count. Sunday afternoon in Carolina for one more against the Hurricanes. This one should be closer to the opening day lineup for Nashville.

Random Notes

- Smashville rocked it on the fundraising efforts for hurricane relief last night, raising over $20,000 to help out the victims of Hurricane Florence in the Carolinas.

- Filip Forsberg was victimized on a fascinating play during the third period last night. Coming through the neutral zone he almost had his head ripped off, and was called for interference on the play.

- The Mary Kay call came just 30 seconds later as the ‘Canes were whistled down.

- Dan Hamhuis made his return to Smashville last night, seeing his first home action of the preseason.
