Unlike what we’re used to, puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 PM tonight and the Canadiens will take on a Rangers side that will be without both Artemi Panarin and Andrew Copp. With their loss to the Hurricanes last night, the Rags can no longer win the Metropolitan division championships and the team has therefore decided to rest some key players. Will that be sufficient to allow the Canadiens to avoid a 10th loss in a row? That’s far from a given.
While the Habs are getting ready to face the Rangers, Carey Price is set to meet with the specialist who operated on his knee last July today. We probably won’t be getting an update on that topic until tomorrow or even later if tests need to be conducted. Meanwhile, Cole Caufield told the media this morning that he did get a call from USA Hockey to play in the World Championship, but he wants to focus on the last 2 games of the season before making a decision.
Yesterday, Luc Gélinas said on 91.9 that Shea Weber would be in Montreal this weekend, there was some speculation as to why that was, but it appears it’s for the team’s yearly exit physical. As you know, Weber hasn’t played all year and while no one officially said that his career was over, Jonathan Drouin inadvertently told us that it was the case earlier this season. Still, Weber kept the captain’s C and part of the fan base and media are annoyed that he didn’t show for Lafleur’s homage.

To be honest, I didn’t even think about that until it was pointed out to me. I guess I was focused on Lafleur. Personally, I was surprised when he wasn’t there at the start of the season to be introduced to the crowd like every other injured player normally is, but since then, I’ve not expected anything. I think the hatred thrown at Weber right now for not being at Sunday’s game is a bit over the top. After all, it was short notice, and we don’t know what’s happening in his life. It has been reported that he did get in touch with Lafleur’s family though and I do hope he will be at the funeral, especially since he’ll be in Montreal this weekend.

Alors que les Habs se préparent à affronter les Rangers, Carey Price lui rencontrera le spécialiste qui l’a opéré au genou en juillet au cours de la journée. On n’aura probablement pas de mise à jour sur son état avant demain ou peut-être plus tard si des tests s’avèrent nécessaires. Quand même, Weber a gardé le C du capitaine et une partie des fans et des médias semblent en vouloir à Weber d’avoir été absent lors de l’hommage à Guy Lafleur.
Pour être honnête, je n’y avais pas pensé avant qu’on ne me le fasse remarquer. J’imagine que toute mon attention était sur Lafleur. Personnellement, j’ai été surprise qu’il ne soit pas au match d’ouverture pour être présenté à la foule avec le reste des joueurs blessés comme c’est normalement le cas, mais depuis, je ne m’attends plus à rien. Je crois que la haine qui est maintenant dirigé vers Weber pour son absence au match de dimanche est exagérée. Après tout, il aurait dà» se revirer de bord assez rapidement pour être présent et on ne sait pas ce qui se passe dans sa vie. Il a toutefois contacté la famille de Lafleur et j’espère qu’il sera aux funérailles, surtout qu’il sera en ville ce week-end, ce serait la bonne chose à faire.
