The Canadiens were back on the ice this morning, and there was not much change to report aside from the fact that Cedric Paquette was back. His insertion in the line-up meant that Alex Belzile kept company to Ryan Poehling as an extra. The Canadiens have until 5:00 PM tonight to submit their final 23 men roster and they announced this morning that Cayden Primeau was cut and sent to Laval while Kaiden Guhle was sent back to Prince Albert, his junior team. The youngster will have a chance to play an important role for the Raiders and will no doubt represent Canada at the World Junior Championships.
Interestingly, the Habs picked up Adam Brooks, a center, from waivers. A 4th round pick by the Leafs in 2016, the 25-year-old has played 18 games in the NHL during which he gathered 8 points. This pick-up seems to indicate that Marc Bergevin is not comfortable with the CH’s depth at center and since it puts the Habs over the 23-men squad limit, someone else will need to go down to Laval. Since the new pick-up is a pivot and that Ryan Poehling doesn’t have to go through waivers to be sent to the AHL, he seems like the obvious choice, especially since he didn’t have a great camp by any means.
EDIT: Since Sami Niku is still on IR, the roster now stands at 23 with no further cuts necessary.
In just over 48 hours, the Canadiens will open their season in Toronto and we’ll see if this new version of a Habs is better than the one who reached the Cup Final last year, somehow, I really doubt it.

Les Canadiens étaient de retour sur la glace ce matin et il n’y avait pas grand-chose à rapporter, si ce n’est pour le fait que Cedric Paquette était présent. Conséquemment, Alex Belzile s’est retrouvé sur les lignes de côté avec Ryan Poehling. Le Tricolore a jusqu’à 5:00 PM pour soumettre son alignement de départ de la saison de 23 joueurs et ils ont annoncé ce matin que Cayden Primeau a été retranché et envoyé à Laval alors que Kaigen Guhle a pris le chemin de Prince Albert, pour rejoindre son équipe junior. Le jeune homme aura donc la chance de tenir un rôle de premier plan avec les Raiders et pourra sans doute représenter le Canada au Championnat mondial junior.
Développement intéressant, les Habs ont réclamé Adam Brooks, un joueur de centre au ballotage. Un choix de 4e ronde des Leafs and 2016, le joueur de 25 ans a joué 18 matchs dans la LNH récoltant au passage 8 points. Cette acquisition semble donc indiquer que Marc Bergevin n’est pas confortable avec la profondeur de sa ligne de centre et puisque ça pousse son alignement à 24 joueurs, quelqu’un d’autre devra être envoyé à Laval. Puisque le nouvel arrivant est un centre et que Ryan Poehling n’a pas à passer par le ballottage pour y aller, il semble être le choix tout indiqué, surtout que son camp n’a pas été des plus impressionnants.
EDIT: Puisque Sami Niku est toujours sur la liste des blessés, l’alignement compte maintenant 23 joueurs sans avoir besoin de faire d’autre coupure. Dans tout juste plus de 48 heures, les Canadiens amorceront la nouvelle saison en affrontant Toronto et nous verrons si cette nouvelle version du CH est meilleure que celle qui s’est rendue en final de la Coupe Stanley, j’en doute fort, mais on doit donner la chance au coureur.
