Tampa Bay is an excellent team with so much firepower that most thought the Canadiens had no chance last night, but lo and behold they managed to pull out a victory after an intense and exciting game. The Bolts jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first and the Habs could have given up, especially after they contested the first goal for goaltender’s interference, and it was ruled a good goal, but they didn’t.

Caufield and Pitlick showed up all alone in front of Ellott and the Habs’ sniper didn’t miss his chance to make it 2-1, Tampa then got a power play goal, but Montreal came back with a pair of tallies from Schueneman and Anderson to draw level. Then, with 16 seconds to go in the frame, the Lightning scored a 4th goal which could have been the backbreaker, but the Canadiens decided otherwise.

It was the 4th line that allowed the Canadiens to tie things up in the 3rd when Tyler Pitlick collected the puck with his skates on the zone entry before passing it to Poehling who then sent it to Ylonen who scored to bring everyone back to square one. An eventful overtime period couldn’t crown a winner and Nick Suzuki was the only scorer in the shootout on a magistral maneuver that fooled Elliott and made Habs’ fans jump out of their seat.

Jake Allen once again had a good game stopping 37 of the 41 shots the Lightning sent his way, Jordan Harris spent just short of 16 minutes on the ice and looked very comfortable in his NHL debut, he played with a poise and confidence that we’ve rarely seen in a rookie. He managed one shot on goal, blocked 3 of the Bolts’ attempt on net and visited the sin bin for 2 minutes when he forgot that in the big league, you need to head to the bench right away when you lose your helmet. He showed good speed and fluid skating and I wouldn’t be shocked if he started the next season in Montreal, overall, he looks more seasoned that Justin Barron and that’s normal, he is after all nearly 22 while Barron is only 20.

Joel Edmundson said after the game that St-Louis didn’t want to make his return to Tampa Bay all about him but that the players did make it about him, they wanted to win the game for the man who’s brough joy back to the Bell Centre this year and they did, a wonderful way to thank him. The Habs will be back in action on Tueday night against the Senators.

Tampa Bay est une excellente équipe avec tellement de munitions que la plupart des experts s’accordaient pour dire que les Canadiens n’avaient aucune chance hier soir, mais, à  la surprise générale, ils ont su sortir un lapin de leur chapeau et remporter la victoire dans un match des plus excitants. Les Bolts ont pris les devants 2-0 en première et les Canadiens auraient pu baisser les bras, surtout après que leur contestation pour obstruction sur le gardien eut été rejeté mais il n’en fut rien.

Caufield et Allen se sont présentés seuls devant Brian Elliott et le tireur d’élite du CH n’allait pas rater sa chance de faire 2-1 en première moitié de 2e, Tampa a ensuite repris une avance de 2 buts sur le jeu de puissance avec que Scheueneman et Anderson réussissent à  niveler la marque à  3 partout. Puis, avec à  peine 16 secondes à  faire en 2e, Tampa a marqué un 4e but, qui aurait pu briser les reins du Tricolore, mais Montréal en a décidé autrement.

C’est le 4e trio qui a permis aux Canadiens de se rendre en prolongation quand Tyler Pitlick a habilement manÅ“uvré pour recevoir la rondelle avec ses patins avant d’y aller d’une belle passe à  Poehling qui a ensuite alimenté Ylonen qui a ramené tout le monde à  la case départ. Une période de surtemps enlevante n’a pas permis de faire un maître et c’est finalement Nick Suzuki qui a scellé le débat en fusillade avec une feinte magistrale qui a couché Allen avant que le numéro 14 ne soulève la rondelle dans le filet pour le but gagnant pour faire bondir les partisans du Tricolore de leur siège.

Jake Allen a une fois de plus connu un fort match arrêtant 37 des 41 tirs que le Lightning a place au filet et Jordan Harris a passé tout près de 16 minutes sur la glace lors de ses débuts dans la LNH. Il a joué avec un calme et une confiance qu’on a rarement vu chez une recrue. Il a réussi un tir au but, a bloqué 3 des tentatives de Tampa et s’est payé un petit séjour au banc des punitions quand il a oublié qu’on doit immédiatement retraiter au banc quand on perd son casque dans la grande ligue. Il a montré une bonne vitesse de croisière et une fluidité dans ses mouvements et je ne serait pas choquée de le voir commencer la saison à  Montréal l’an prochain. Globalement, il a l’air plus poli que Justin Barron et c’est normal, il a presque 22 ans déjà  alors que Barron n’en a que 20.

Joel Edmundson a dit après le match que St-Louis ne voulait pas que l’histoire du match soit son retour à  Tampa mais que les joueurs eux, voulaient que ce soit la trame narrative, il voulait gagner pour l’homme qui a ramené la joie au Centre Bell cette saison, une excellente façon de la remercier. Les Canadiens seront de retour en action mardi au Centre Bell face aux Sénateurs.
