Tonight’s game doesn’t mean anything for the Habs, they’ve been out of playoff contention for longer than Habs fans care to admit, but they can still wreak havoc in the Leafs’ plans. Toronto finds itself in 2nd place in the Atlantic, 3 points clear of Boston 3rd in the conference ahead of the Rangers by virtue of having one less loses. If I’m the Leafs, I want to stay ahead of the Rangers and avoid a first-round match-up against Boston for obvious historical reasons…

Yesterday, the Canadiens announced that Josh Brook had been sent down to the Trois-Rivières Lion of the ECHL. This came as a surprise to many, but the Rocket does have a lot of defensemen on hand and Brook has been struggling to find his rhythm after both a serious knee injury and a bout with Covid. Not so long ago, he was quite a bit higher in the organizational depth chart, but he’s not been able to catch a break in recent years. Last night in his first game with the Lions, he found the back of the net. Hopefully, this is the start of a comeback for the young man. The Canadiens might have a pretty stacked cupboard of young defensemen, but right shots ones are rarer and much needed. Mailloux, Kostenko and Sobolev are in the pipeline, but they’re only 18 and 19 years-old…
Jake Allen gets the start tonight and Pezzetta and Harris come back in the line-up while Clague and Ylonen come out. Ryan Poehling will be a game time decision.
Le match de ce soir ne veut rien dire pour Montréal, après tout le CH est sorti de la course aux séries depuis plus longtemps que ses fans n’aiment à l’admettre, mais il peut quand même jouer les trouble-fêtes contre les Leafs. Toronto se trouve présentement en 2e position dans l’Atlantique, 3 points devant Boston et 3e dans la conférence, devant les Rangers puisqu’ils ont une défaite en temps réglementaire de moins à leur fiche. Si je suis à la place des Leafs, je veux rester devant les Rangers et éviter un rendez-vous en première ronde avec les Bruins pour des raisons historiques évidentes…

Jake Allen défendra la cage du Tricolore ce soir alors que Jordan Harris et Michael Pezzetta réintégreront la formation en remplacement de Clague et Ylonen. Une décision sera prise avant le match quant à Ryan Poehling.
