Follow me on Twitter: @BenShelley_20 Follow HockeyBuzz Hurricanes on Twitter: @HB_Canes Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jake Gardiner will be having hip and back surgeries and is expected to miss the entire 2021-22 season.
Gardiner joined the Hurricanes in 2019 and has played a total of 92 games with the team, scoring four goals and 32 points. However, he played just 26 regular season games with Carolina this year and was placed on waivers partway through the season.
Don Waddell says Jake Gardiner will have back and hip surgery and go on LTIR, which solves the Hurricanes' cap issues with Kotkaniemi. Hurricanes will still need to get fully $4m over the cap to maximize their LTIR relief. (They're about $2.5m short of that at the moment.)
