The New York Islanders have acquired forward Dmytro Timashov from the Detroit Red Wings, in exchange for future considerations.

I like the decision for the Islanders to acquire Timashov. He still needs to prove that he can become a full-time NHL forward but he does have offensive upside and can add some depth to New York’s forward group. It’ll be interesting to see what the Islanders’ plan is for the forward but he’s still just 24 years old and could potentially develop into a quality bottom-six forward.

I wouldn’t read too much into his stats either. He was playing in a very small role with the Maple Leafs and averaged just 8:32 per game throughout the 2019-20 season. All of his points also came at even strength, making for a pretty decent points per 60 average. Given a better opportunity, I think Timashov could develop well with the Islanders.

Timashov is still in need of a contract for the upcoming season and is currently a restricted free agent.
