The Carolina Hurricanes picked up their third win in a row to start the season, defeating the Seattle Kraken 5-1 today.
Dylan Coghlan suited up for his first regular season game with the Hurricanes, while Frederik Andersen got the start.

Carolina had a flurry of good chances in the first few minutes of the second period but couldn’t convert and continued to control a lot of the game through much of the first half of the frame. Then midway through the period they were rewarded, as Sebastian Aho one-timed a shot past Philipp Grubauer on a power play to extend the lead. Under a minute later though, the Kraken had a power play of their own and Andre Burakovsky buried a nice pass from Jordan Eberle to cut the lead to one. But then only 18 seconds after the Kraken had got on the board, the Hurricanes regained their lead on yet another power play, with Andrei Svechnikov scoring off a pass from Sebastian Aho. The goals just kept coming, as only about a minute after Svechnikov put Carolina up 3-1, he scored again, tipping Martin Necas’ shot past Grubauer to extend the Hurricanes’ lead to three goals. After four goals between the teams in a span of only about two minutes, the Hurricanes took a 4-1 lead into intermission.
The Kraken did get a couple quick chances to start the third period and the shots for the period landed at 12-12. With only about five minutes to go though, Jordan Martinook buried a rebound in front to put the Hurricanes up 5-1, with the team cruising to a win.
The Hurricanes outshot Seattle 34-23 overall, which was another game with a sizable shot difference. Over their first three games, the Hurricanes have outshot their opponents by a margin of 112-74, a pace of 37-25 per game.
The team’s whole forward group is chipping in and creating offense and the Hurricanes also went 2-for-5 on the power play. This also notably marks the third game in a row the team has only allowed a single goal.
It’s a great start for the Hurricanes, but they also face some tougher competition coming up, which will be a better test.
The Hurricanes continue their Western road trip on Thursday against the Edmonton Oilers.
