It could have been another bad evening for the Canadiens had it not been for some stellar goaltending by Samuel Montembault in the first frame, but the waiver pick-up stood tall, and it gave his teammates a much-needed energy boost. It was the Lehkonen-Evans-Gallagher line that answered the call and got the Canadiens on the board with their first shot on goal when Lehkonen finally buried a scoring chance. There’s no 1st round pick on the Canadiens’ 3rd line but there is a lot of work ethic and 3 players that always give their all. At the end of 20 minutes, the Habs retreated to the locker-room with a 1-0 lead.
Montreal didn’t want to leave anything up to luck in the 2nd though and they provided a full 20 minutes of effort, scoring 4 goals. Dvorak scored just over a minute in after being benched for much of the 1st, Gallagher then added to the lead on a power play goal that was 9 seconds in the making before Ryan Poehling got a pair of goals in 40 seconds. With a 5-0 lead after 40 minutes, it felt like the Habs were just cruising in, but even with that kind of margin, the Habs remain a fragile team.
Nashville clearly wanted to make this a game in the 3rd, and they managed to do it through Matt Duchene who got himself a hat trick and brought the Preds within 2 goals of the Tricolore. Thankfully, Tyler Toffoli scored an empty netter which allowed to cut short to the Preds’ comeback and the Canadiens won their 5th game of the season by a score of 6-3.
For the first time this season, Dominique Ducharme elected to use 7 defensemen and 11 forwards which meant some line mixing at times, but it worked. Only 2 of the Canadiens’ forwards didn’t get a single point tonight, Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki, but in such a win, it doesn’t matter very much at all, especially since Suzuki won 72.2% of his faceoffs tonight.
Tonight’s game shouldn’t be seen as anything more than a good Saturday night game that made players and fans alike feel good, the Canadiens are not out of the woods by any means and nor should they be expected to be before the end of the season. Who knows what prompted this offensive awakening and who cares really? Could it be the return of “Fix You… as the entrance song which the players requested to have back according to Godin? That’s unlikely.. Just take it and enjoy it for what it is, even a broken clock gives the right time twice a day as they say.

à‡a aurait pu être une autre mauvaise soirée pour le Tricolore n’eut été de toute une performance de Samuel Montembault devant le filet en première période, l’acquisition de Bergevin au ballotage s’est dressé comme un roc dans le filet et il a du même coup insufflé à son équipe un bonus d’énergie qui était oh combien nécessaire. C’est la ligne Lehkonen-Evans-Gallagher qui a répondu à l’appel, Lehkonen faisant finalement bouger les cordages en marquant sur le 1er tir de la Sainte-Flanelle. Il n’y a pas de choix de première sur la 3e ligne du CH, mais il y a une excellente éthique de travail et 3 joueurs qui donnent toujours tout ce qu’ils ont. àprès 20 minutes, le CH est rentré au vestiaire avec une avance de 1-0.
Montréal semblait résolu à ne rien laisser à la chance en période médiane et l’équipe a finalement fourni un 20 minutes complet d’effort, maquant 4 buts. Dvorak a marqué après tout juste une minute, lui qui avait été cloué au banc longtemps en première période, Gallagher a ensuite marqué lors d’un avantage numérique de 9 secondes avant que Ryan Poehling ne marque une paire de buts en 40 secondes. Avec une avance de 5-0 après 40 minutes, on avait l’impression que l’affaire était déjà dans le sac, mais même avec ce genre d’avance, les Canadiens demeurent une équipe à la confiance fragile.
Nashville avait clairement décidé de ne pas laisser tomber et de revenir dans le match, ce qu’ils ont fait grâce à un tour du chapeau de Matt Duchene qui a coupé l’avance du CH à 2 buts. Heureusement, Toffoli a marqué dans un filet désert ce qui a mis fin au retour dans le match des Preds et qui a permis aux Canadiens de remporter leur 5e victoire de l’année.
Pour la première fois cette saison, Dominique Ducharme a décidé d’utiliser 7 défenseurs et 11 attaquants ce qui a donné lieu à des combinaisons variées, mais ça a fonctionné. Seulement 2 des 11 attaquant montréalais n’ont pas obtenu de point ce soir ; Cole Caufield et Nick Suzuki, mais dans un tel match, ça ne dérange pas vraiment, surtout si on considère que Suzuki a tout de même bien contribué, remportant 72.2% de ses mises en jeu.
Il ne faut pas voir le match de ce soir pour autre chose que ce qu’il était; un bon match du samedi soir qui a permis aux partisans et aux joueurs de mieux se sentir, les Canadiens ne sont pas sortis du bois, loin de là , et ils ne le seront pas d’ici la fin de la saison non plus. Qui sait ce qui a déclanché cet éveil offensif et est-ce vraiment important? Est-ce que ça pourrait être le retour de la chanson “Fix You… en tant que morceau d’ouverture? Rien n’est moins sà»r. Il vaut mieux prendre la victoire, la célébrer et se remettre au travail, après tout, même une horloge défectueuse donne la bonne heure 2 fois par jour…
