The Carolina Hurricanes will be taking part in 2019 NHL Prospects Showcase beginning Sept. 7 and a couple of days ago the team released their roster. This article will break down the forwards listed on the roster– and if you haven’t seen the breakdown of defense and goalies, you can find it here.
Perhaps the most anticipated player to see on the showcase roster is Ryan Suzuki. Suzuki, Carolina’s first-round pick this year, had 25 goals and 75 points in just 65 games with the Barrie Colts in the OHL. In his rookie year in the OHL in 2017-18, Suzuki was also a teammate of current Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov. Joining Suzuki as a 2019 draftee on the roster is Jamieson Rees, who the Hurricanes selected 44th overall. Rees, who plays for Sarnia in the OHL, had 32 points in 37 games but missed part of the season with a lacerated kidney. Blake Murray, a sixth-round pick this year, rounds out the 2019 draft picks on the forward roster, while Luke Henman, a 2018 fourth-round pick, will also take part in the showcase.
Several free agent invitees will be on the roster. Nolan Hutchieson who had 44 points in 66 games with the Sudbury Wolves, is the sole free agent forward invitee from the OHL, while Ethan Crossman will be the only one from the QMJHL. Martin Lang, Leif Mattson and Kyle Topping all come from the WHL and Kameron Kielly will be attending from the University of PEI.
