The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired defenseman Kyle Wood from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Trevor Carrick.

Wood, 23, is a 6-foot-7 right-handed defenseman. Originally drafted by Colorado in 2014, he was traded to Arizona before eventually being moved to San Jose last summer. In his AHL career, Wood has 97 points in 187 games- great production from a young defenseman. Wood will likely be a key part of Charlotte's defense corps in the AHL.

In the move, the Hurricanes give up Trevor Carrick, a 25-year-old left-handed defenseman. Carrick had played four games with Carolina across the last four seasons.
