The Carolina Hurricanes will be taking part in 2019 NHL Prospects Showcase beginning Sept. 7 and yesterday the team released their roster. This article will break down the defense and goaltenders listed on the roster, with the breakdown of forwards coming tomorrow.
DEFENSE
Chase Priskie, the Hurricanes’ highly sought-after university signee, headlines the defensive roster for the camp. Originally a Washington Capitals draft pick, Priskie captained the Quinnipiac University team last year, where he had 39 points in 36 games.
Jesper Sellgren is the only defenseman on the roster to have actually been drafted by the Hurricanes. Sellgren was taken in the sixth round in 2018 and spent most of last season in the SHL, where he had 15 points in 52 regular season games. He also joined Charlotte in the playoffs, where he had three goals and four points in 11 games.
Other invitees include Kaleb Bulych, 6-foot-4 blue liner who spent last season with Vancouver of the WHL, Thomas Pelletier from Drummondville of the QMJHL and David Maier from North Bay of the OHL.
GOALTENDERS
Along with Helvig, Samuel Harvey joins the roster as an invitee. Harvey was outstanding in his final two years of junior, posting a .930 regular season save percentage and a .945 playoff save percentage in 2017-18, then led Rouyn-Noranda to a Memorial Cup last year with a .926 regular season save percentage and a .924 playoff save percentage. Harvey is expected to join the University of New Brunswick for the upcoming season.
