There was a welcome sight this morning when the Canadiens took the ice for their morning skate. Tyler Toffoli, who hasn’t played since March 19th because of a lower-body injury, was finally back. In his post morning skate media opportunity, coach Dominique Ducharme said that Toffoli would be a game-time decision, but that so far, all signs pointed to him being in the line-up.
There were also some new lines on display today, with Toffoli’s likely return, it should surprise no-one to see that Michael Frolik didn’t feature on a regular line: Tatar-Danault-Gallagher Perry-Suzuki-Anderson Drouin-Kotkaniemi-Toffoli Byron-Evans-Lehkonen
Considering that in the last 10 games at even strength the Drouin-Suzuki-Anderson had produced 3 points, it’s not surprising to see Ducharme try to light a spark with some changes. Kotkaniemi who has been going through a better stretch than Suzuki lately, will benefit from having better line mates. We already know that he has chemistry with Toffoli, now we’ll get to see what Drouin can do with him. This also puts Toffoli back on right wing, which is his natural position.
My sole concern with these new lines is the fact that Perry finds himself with Suzuki and Anderson, and I’m just not sure he’ll have the speed necessary to keep up. If he does though, this one could be very interesting. If there’s someone who can find space and complete plays, it’s Corey Perry. I don’t know how he does it, but he does seem to be able to get behind the defense and do some damage.
We’ll know during the warm-up if Toffoli is indeed back and we’ll be seeing these new lines. The Habs will try to win a fourth game in a row for the first time this season when the battle the Sens tonight.
On a side note, Mathias Brunet made me chuckle this morning when he posted this tweet:

Why is he asking? Because tonight, Jack Roslovic, the centre which was sent to Columbus along will Patrik Laine will be a healthy scratch. Since the trade, Dubois has 14 points in 23 games, Laine has 14 in 28 and Roslovic 22 in 31. It’s safe to say that the 2 big names involved have not exactly delivered. I thought that Roslovic was doing pretty well all things considered, but you know, Torts. Right now, Habs fans should be glad that Marc Bergevin didn’t trade a huge part of his team’s future for Dubois.
Il y avait une belle surprise à l’entraînement matinal du CH ce matin, Tyler Toffoli, qui n’a pas joué depuis le 19 mars en raison d’une blessure au bas du corps, était finalement de retour. Lors de sa disponibilité médiatique de ce matin, Dominique Ducharme a dit qu’une décision finale serait prise avant le match quant à la présence de Toffoli, mais que pour l’instant, tous les signes pointaient vers un retour au jeu.
Il y avait aussi de nouveaux trios aujourd’hui, avec le retour probable de Toffoli, personne ne devrait être étonné de voir que Michael Frolik n’était plus sur un trio régulier: Tatar-Danault-Gallagher Perry-Suzuki-Anderson Drouin-Kotkaniemi-Toffoli Byron-Evans-Lehkonen
Considérant que dans les 10 derniers matchs à forces égales la ligne de Drouin-Suzuki-Anderson n’a produit que 3 petits points, ce n’est pas choquant de voir Ducharme tenter de provoquer une étincelle avec des changements. Kotkaniemi, qui travers une meilleure séquence que Suzuki, sera avantagé par la présence de meilleurs ailiers. Nous savons déjà qu’il y a une certaine chimie entre KK et Toffoli, nous verrons ce soir ce que Drouin peut faire à ses côtés. Cela signifie également que Toffoli est de retour à l’aile droite, sa position naturelle.
J’avoue par contre que je me demande si Perry saura suivre le tempo de Suzuki et Anderson, possède-t-il la rapidité nécessaire? Si c’est le cas, ça pourrait être un trio très intéressant. S’il y a un joueur qui est capable de trouver de l’espace et de compléter des jeux, c’est bien Corey Perry. Je ne sais pas comment il s’y prend, mais il semble très efficace pour se glisser derrière les défenseurs et causer des dommages.
Nous saurons pendant l’échauffement d’avant-match si Toffoli sera de retour et si nous aurons la chance de voir les nouveaux trios. Les Canadiens tenteront de remporter un 4e match consécutif pour la première fois de la saison quand ils affronteront les Sénateurs ce soir. Pourquoi demande-t-il ça? Parce que, ce soir, Jack Roslovic, le centre qui a été envoyé à Columbus avec Patrik Laine en retour de Pierre-Luc Dubois, ne sera pas en uniforme même s’il est en parfaite santé. Depuis l’échange, Dubois a 14 points en 23 matchs, Laine 14 en 28 et Roslovic, 22 en 31. Je croyais que Roslovic s’en tirait plutôt bien, mais qui peut comprendre Torts? Présentement, les fans devraient être contents que Marc Bergevin n’ait pas échangé une partie du futur de son club pour Dubois.
