Both Arturs Šilovs and Casey DeSmith are on the ice for morning skate at Rogers Arena. #Canucks  @Sportsnet650

I think you run with DeSmith and keep Silovs in reserve in case Casey falters, DeSmith got you there as the actual backup and if he's ready to go, you have to go with the goaltender that got you there. I truly think that RT only played Silovs because he wasn't as concerned about winning or losing game 4, only to try and give DeSmith some rest to be ready for game 5 and beyond. I think if it'd been 2-1 for Nashville, DeSmith would have played anyways and the Canucks would have approached game 4 differently than they did (and won anyways despite themselves).

Canucks need to get some depth scoring going and to get some offensive contributions (goals) from Pettersson. Dallas won last night with depth scoring.

Hoglander, Mikheyev, Garland, Blueger, Lafferty, Hronek, Hughes, Pettersson are all haven't scored a goal in this series. A bunch of them have zero points, nothing, nadda....and that bum Podkolzin hasn't contributed a thing.

Yep true. Depth scoring is much needed Boeser can't score every goal lol

DeSmith working with Ian Clarke so Silvos getting the start most likely.

What a load of horse shit.
Of course Tocchet was concerned about winning. I would like to think he wants to win every playoff game or he shouldn't be coaching in the NHL.

If he was that concerned, he'd have played DeSmith, I'm not saying he was expecting to lose but he wasn't as concerned about winning THAT game as looking forwards in case they did in fact lose and to have DeSmith ready for Game 5 and beyond since DeSmith is injured. If it was an elimination game, DeSmith would have played regardless, there's no way you throw a third string goalie in unless DeSmith was injured as bad as Demko is.

If he wasn't worried about winning that game he should be fired. The series tied would have guaranteed a game 6 which meant extra travelling and obviously a game 7, even more travel. He should be lazer focused on winning the series as quickly as possible, thus giving the team extra time to heal, rest & practise.

Silovs is more likeable, I'd like to see him get a run if he can keep performing well.
- NorthNuck

Silovs only had 9 regular season games before his playoff debut, Ken Dryden only had 6 and went on to win the Conn Smythe, so keep him in.

A modern day version of 1984 Steve Penny who helped the Canadiens reach the conference finals after only four games of NHL experience.

Score first and hopefully this game is ours. Lock them down defensively like in GM 3.

81 first round and 80 second round trending towards the 70's lol. Looks like I'm switching to the Callaway Chrome tour ball full time getting better results off the tee for sure than the Titleist. Supposed to get Snow again this week...

This has to be the most ridiculous comment I've ever read on this site, and that's saying something. An NHL head coach not worried about winning or losing a playoff game? You can't be serious. Geez, if that was true he better not say it out loud or he'll be fired instantly. LOL

Then why play Silovs? You can't tell me that if it were an elimination game, or a game where the team could be in the hole down 3-1 that he wouldn't play DeSmith unless DeSmith is so badly injured that he literally can't get on the ice. There's no way in hell an NHL Head Coach would throw Silovs who's been mostly the Abby Canucks backup into a pivotal game unless he had no other choice. Sorry, I just don't buy it, he played him because he wanted DeSmith ready for game 5 and beyond and he wasn't AS worried about winning or losing game 4. Of COURSE he wanted to win that game, but you can't tell me that you play Silovs over DeSmith unless DeSmith literally can't put on skates and at least start the game.

Obviously Desmith is older and has more overall experience, but I would argue Silovs actually has more big-game experience.

Desmith had started 1 playoff game in his life before this season, and has only played in 1 international tourney as the starter, coincidentally the same tournament where Silovs was named tournament MVP, last years World Championships. Silovs has represented his country numerous times internationally on the other hand.

Canucks for sure stole game 4. I hope the Preds win it tonight as I do have them taking the series in 7, but after game 4, I don't think that is probable anymore.

Sure, but international play isn't quite the same as the NHL playoffs, I still maintain that were the series in favor of Nashville 2-1 or if we were facing elimination, he plays DeSmith anyways unless DeSmith literally couldn't get on the ice and at least start the game. If Silovs plays today then probably DeSmith is much more badly injured then we realize and RT has no choice (although they said that DeSmith will backup Silovs if he starts) but to play him. I doubt Silovs would be his first choice if all were equal, because you want to play the guy that got you there unless he drops the ball or is too injured to at least start the game.
