He's going to detroit. Watching the Lidstrom press conference live right now, Suter is going to fill that gap.

I don't know, this year seemed like Nashville's best chance to make a run at a Cup (if I had told you at the beginning of the season that Nashville would get past Detroit in the 1st round, and they would just have to beat Phoenix/LA/NJ in succession to hoist the Cup, you'd sign up for that in a heartbeat).

I'm really hoping he does stay in Nashville. Guys like he, Weber, and Rinne have built this team into what they are today. They will be a formidable back end if they can get all of them signed long term. Their chances with forward FAs will improve as well when other players see top defenders/goalies committing to this team.

Detroit will be going into full court press to sign him. Will be very tough to match them dollar for dollar.

If media concerns are truly as important to him as you say, he should head to Socal. Hell, we have a team in the SCF and the local media can't even get the logo for the Kings correct.

The only way Suter re-signs with Nashville is if he is willing to take less money. I've heard the offer might approach $10 mil per season. Maybe the Preds can pay that but if they intend to sign Weber that's going to be a ton of cash tied up in three players who don't score a lot of goals.

He will sign with the team that has a serious shot at contending over the next bunch of years. Detroit is a hockey program in serious decline and are not likely to improve over the next 5 or 6 years.

I think he chooses to stay in Nashville. St. Louis might get some consideration and Minnesota could be a long shot.

I don't think he signs with the Preds unless he believes Weber is staying as well. For that reason no team will outbid Nashville. Every team will be open to a top dollar payout for a number 2 Dman. Nashville cannot afford to lose him and right now they are holding the best cards.

Chicago is a team in chaos and Suter is a bad fit. I think Chicago has much bigger problems than trying to add another top Dman.

Sounds like Anaheim is his logical choice.....oh wait.....the Ducks cant even get their own draft picks to sign there.

Both Weber and Suter should resign in Nashville for 7 years at $6.5m/year. They will enter the last year of their contracts at 34 and be able to sign short term deals then. That is plenty of money to live a life off of. It also gives Nashville a little room to budget for other players and build a winner.

Example - Ovechkin is signed to $9.5m/year. John Tavares is a $5.5m/year. 2 John Tavares' = 1 Alex Ovechkin. I'd take 2 JT's anyday. GM's need to properly allocate their cash, not throw money all at one player.

Nashville is a team that will be good for a while as their prospects develop. They draft really well. Also, an FA signing here or there would help them significantly.

If they are looking to sign with a Cup contender, they should resign because they're already on one!

Paul - You forgot Money part 4. TN has no income tax. For him to leave TN and go to another market, they would have to pay him x% more to compensate for this.

This is one of the most logical things I have ever read. And I don't know why it doesn't happen more often.

Honestly, with this season and post season done with in Nashville, I am glad I haven't heard much about this situation. It's been a burden since the ASG, and frankly, Suter played like crap for the majority of the time since then. If he comes back, great. If not, Josi is a very ample replacement. And, daresay, Klein might be able to step in too. He actually does a lot of things (extendaPekka) that Sutes doesn't do that I wish Suter would do.

Don't forget Paul that he gets to keep more of his big bucks by syaying in a "no income tax State".
So stay a while in Nashville Ryan and bring your buddy Zach Parise.

I just don't believe Nashville is going to keep Suter and Weber making around 7 mil per, plus Rinne's 7 mil and still go out and make big time signings or trades. I just don.t see Nashville spending all this money. I also have to believe Weber and Suter also know Nash isn't going to spend to the cap to keep them in contention year in and year out.
