Seen Joe at pro hockey life at lunch on the south side. Apparently he is getting ready for a return before the TDD. Was picking up some yellow and orange tape for his sticks. Said he will spend the holidays tapping up 100 sticks and then will focus on signing a contract.

I am reaching out to my source in Quebec this afternoon to see if the impending end of the NHL lockout has changed Juneau's decision to to cease his comeback attempt. Although I did speak to the source a few weeks back to check in on the situation, at which time he assured me that nothing had changed, it's still worth a shot to see if any NHL clubs are kicking the tires for some inexpensive, veteran help.

I will be back with an update shortly on this.

Update:

As it stands right now, it doesnt seem as though we will see Juneau in an NHL uniform during the early stages of the season, mostly due to the fact that all of the GM's and coaches are scrambling to get their rosters set and aren't too focused on long shots such as Juneau. Nevertheless, I was told by a really good source that a few GMs are keeping a close eye on Juneau and haven't ruled him out as a viable signing option if some of their camp selections do not pan out during the first 10-15 games of the abbreviated season.

According to this source, one Western Conference team has been closely following his progress right from the beginning and almost tabled an offer prior to the announcement of the lockout. The deal was entry level, but full of performance-related bonuses.

I asked my source how Juneau feels and what is mood is like now that the lockout is over. He explained that Joe his glad that it is finally coming to an end and is looking forward to continuing his conditioning. He is also optimistic that some sort of deal may be worked out with an NHL club before the conclusion of the season.

This is all I have for now. Stay tuned.

Guys, I should have a more detailed update on Juneau's situation shortly, but for now here is what I have:

I'm tracking a story relating to Juneau in which a Western Conference team's decision to offer a contract to Juneau is hinging on a decision by its ownerhsip to allow one of these new accelerated buyouts to happen within the next 36 hours.

Stay tuned...

I am hearing from a source this morning that the Winnipeg Jets have now entered the Juneau sweepstakes. The Jets are in desperate need of some veteran leadership and they believe Juneau would be the perfect candidate to help mentor a player like Evander Kane.

With regards to the other Western Conference team, I am still waiting on an update from my source close to the situation. Apparently, the player that they were to buy out has turned a corner in training camp and might have earned his keep.

More to come...

With the long-term injury to Spezza and the most recent injury to Karlsson, my source has informed that the Senators have jumped head first into the Juneau sweepstakes.

This is getting really interesting...

Okay guys, here is what I am hearing. Apparently, the Sens are working on a contract offer for Juneau. It is believed that the Sens are offering between $750k - $1mil prorated, for the rest of the season. Juneau and his agent are okay with the amount, but want to stretch the contract over this year and next.

The other team that has been confirmed as entering the race is the Habs. They, however, are only kicking tires at this point.

Update:

With the continued success that the Sens have seen without a few of their key players, the Sens are officially out of the Juneau sweepstakes.

However, there is some interesting news coming from the Juneau camp. Apparently, prior to the Ryder trade, Marc Bergevin and Therien met privately with Juneau in Montreal a few days prior to the trade. So, I can confirm that there was interest from the Habs, but thy are also out of the hunt for his services, for now.

Another team that has continued to kick the tires is the Edmonton Oilers, but nothing is imminent as of yet.

I have spoken to four people today who have all told me the same thing:

"Look out for a Juneau signing in the next week or so."

Going to call a 5th person who left me a message about this yesterday to see if he will say the same thing.

Stay tuned...

Update:

By now all of you know that Juneau did not sign on to play anywhere this season.

According to a few of my sources, this is how it played out:

- Edmonton, Montreal, and the Winnipeg Jets were high on Juneau's list of teams he wanted to play for.

- Out of those three teams, Winnipeg was the only team that had interest by the time trade deadline rolled around.

- Winnipeg would only offer Juneau a one year deal to play out the rest of the season.

- Juneau and his agent were only interested in entertaining a 2+ year contract with any NHL club.

When I asked my source if this was it for Juneau and his comeback bid, he responded, "Keep an eye out when free agency opens up, this guy is on a mission."

I am being told from two different sources that Montreal and Juneau are considerably far apart on a deal. According to one source, Juneau is looking for a one year, one-way contract and that currently, Montreal is only willing to offer a one year, two-way contract.

Another team that has popped up in discussions, again, is the Edmonton Oilers. The thought is that Juneau would bring a wealth of experience to the young squad, not only from his playing days, but from his most recent mentoring of young hockey players in Northern Quebec.

Stay tuned, the end might be in sight.
