Spoke to a few of my Inuit contacts up in Kuujjuaq, Quebec and they indicated to me that Joé Juneau might be gearing up for a return to the NHL. For clarification, I asked them if he would be returning in either a coaching or front office capacity role. They declined to comment, but an unnamed individual very close to the situation expressed that Juneau wants to make a comeback as a player.

More to come...

He'll be 45 yrs old next January, so unless he's been riding a stationary Bike in a sauna to keep in shape, I doubt he'd make it back to the NHL as a player.

I've got a feeling you're joking, but if you happen to be right about this you should go into the hockey rumour website business.

Update:

According to my source in northern Quebec, Juneau has been engaging in NHL-calibre training sessions for the past month now. He hasn't seen him on the ice, but somebody close to the situation mentioned to him that Juneau's conditioning has been improving rapidly and is skating well. Whether or not he is NHL ready for September training camp is still up in the air. If anything, he said, Juneau would be looking for an invitation to training camp with an NHL club.

I will update further when I hear more. This is getting interesting!

Guys, this is getting really interesting. I exchanged a few texts with my contact in Kuujjuaq, Quebec, where Juneau has been working out and engaging in on ice drills. According to him, and I don't have any reason to doubt him, at least one NHL scout has indeed attended a few of Juneau's on ice practices. My source wasn't able to extract any sort of evaluation from the scout. However, he did mention that the scout showed up to more than one training session.

Stay tuned!

An old friend of mine is an executive in the Val D'or Foreur organization, and he told me a few weeks ago that Juneau skated with them fairly regularly this season, and told all the players that he was seeking a comeback. I thought it was BS at first, but after seeing this I am a believer!

Update:

I managed to get some more information with regards to what NHL club sent a scout to see Juneau. I didn't get the exact team, but according to my source that has been monitoring the situation, the scout was from a Central Division club.

My contact reached out to me this weekend with regards to Juneau's progress. According to him, Juneau suffered a setback after he started to suffer back spasms after an on ice workout. He said that he left the ice early on Saturday morning and was scheduled to see a specialist.

I will update as soon as I hear more.

Sorry for the delay in getting this update out. I've been trying to get a hold of my contact in Northern Quebec. Apparently, one of the cell phone towers was experiencing technical issues. Anyways, here's the latest:

The injury that I previously reported, luckily, isn't that serious. Joe has made a full recovery and is back on the ice skating. There have been two more scouts out to see him, one from a Pacific Division team and another from the Northwest. My source truly believes that Joe has a chance to at least earn a try-out with more than one club. His agent has confirmed that he has spoken with a few teams with regards to this scenario.

Stay tuned, I should have more shortly.

Update:

Guys, I apologize for the delay in this update. Outside of Juneau's continued daily skates and workouts, there hasn't been much to write about, until now. It has been confirmed that Kevin Lowe, Steve Tambellini along with new Oilers head coach Ralph Krueger have indeed been out to see Juneau. The idea would be to bring him in on a one year contract to mentor all the young kids they have on the squad. All reports are indicate that the trio were "pleasantly" surprised in the strength and condition that Juneau is in. Although no official contractual conversations have occured, it does appear that they are leaning towards starting the dialogue with Juneau and his agent.

Stay tuned...This one is starting to heat up.

Update:

With a potential lockout looming, Juneau has decided to put his bid to return to the NHL on hold. A few of the NHL clubs that were interested in him, as I was told, do not want to pursue a risky acquisition such as Juneau considering the current circumstances around the league. However, I was assured that they are still interested if and when the dust settles and an abbreviated season occurs.

This is really too bad for Juneau, he was training extremely dilligently over the past few months. It will be interesting to see if he does indeed decide to continue with his training.

Stay tuned...

Update

Due to the fact that the lockout continues to drag on, Juneau has officially stopped his bid to return to the NHL - at least for this season. He has not ruled out another attempt for next season, but the source I spoke to explained that it would be highly unlikely for Juneau to restart another comeback campaign.

Guys, looks like we have our first official casualty of the lockout.
