I have completed the entirety of the Southern Reach Trilogy

Annihilation was easily my favorite and felt much different than the latter two

icant even
id just read the first book - ,which he wrote in 4 hours after a dream. then only move on to the next two if you really wish - their tones and style are different sometimes verbose. Annihilation was the exact ride i had hoped to jump into

So I'm home now. I'm taking a minute to gather my thoughts.

Overall, not negative but like my friend said, I can see where the game might crack wide open into being a failure.

+
+ The game is gorgeous
+ The little branch thingy they stole from Telltale is also really neat
+ Didn't hit bingo yet, although I've got a couple 4/5's
+ I do appreciate the effort put into the dialogue trees, although at times I don't really understand what buttons mean sometimes and get a didn't-think-thats-what-i-meant-to-say moment
+ There is more potential to be really good than be hilarious garbage

-
- They establish in the first... part? that the robots cannot feel pain. Then immediately try to draw sympathy from you for when a black guy robot is nearly lynched and a lady one has been basically domestically abused.
- 40% unemployment is absurd and the game shouldn't be humans vs robots because racism, but humans vs automation. but the characters talk to the robots as if they're people and not robots. I struggle to believe the government could possibly survive and be stable when 40% of the taxable population has no income. I know that the 40% is probably more meant for shock factor and not thought, but I couldn't help but think about it. From my impressions the "they tuk r jerbs" is a driving force behind the black robot's plot.
- Thinking about how sports leagues allow robots into them is stupid. Same with robo pets.

Overall, I'm not that negative but I'll probably get another couple hours in on Friday and if the game continues to hold up I might be okay with Detroit: David Uncaged. Although a $7999 price tag for the most advanced home helper android ever is an absurdly low price.

I don't think there will be any flashbacks, but I'd be more interested in the origin of how this world developed.

The amount of "free will" the robots are designed to have is strange. They can decide on activities and how to solve problems and offer opinions, but they're also just blank nothings at the same time. There's a strange level of emotion they're given that . Are they AIs? or just programs?

Do we want to discuss choices?

I flew off the the building to save the girl
I painted android despair or whatever

I don't know if there was any "key" decision for the lady as far as I played.

I don't think it's supposed to be a racial, cage is just stealing a lot from american civil rights history which might confuse things I guess. They don't like the androids because they are losing jobs because of them, and people don't consider them to be anything other than machines (since 99% of them at the start of the game are exactly just that) so they don't treat them well.

I think a fully automated future probably would lead to something like 40% unemployment. That's when something like a universal basic income would have to be a thing or there'd be riots and chaos. They'd have to get creative with corporate taxation to make that sustainable more or less. This game is set pretty much in the transition period I think, where they haven't fully adjusted to the effects of replacing people with androids so lots of people are poor as (frank) (see abusive father storyline lol). That creates tension.

The androids are full blown intelligent AIs. As the game goes on you do learn how they work a bit more so I won't say anything more. Or at least you will learn about them if you pick the same branches I did. (frank) if I know how certain scenes play out if you make different choices. Waaaay too many variations in this game, its wild.
