That was a pretty damn funny rant
If the main character is a big bumhole like you said then I agree with ya, it's beyond lame for a kids movie, (frank) this. That was a good point to bring up

(hey the background music did help make it tighter)

- SourceS.V.P.

I get that you want a little bit of hijinks and if the character is a dink and has a true turn around its one thing.

But he doesn't. He just keeps doubling down on being an bumhole and then eventually goes "maybe I'm sorry a little bit but its everyone else fault more still tho"

it's amazing how lifeless the characters are and how impossible it is to give a crap about the bare bones story and paint by numbers side quests.

shop owner: oh no, my golden claw was stolen!

player: im mr or mrs hero person, i will find it for you even though you've given me no reason to think it's all that important to you.

shop owner: thank you person i just met.

great story. 4.5 smugs out of 5. (frank) video games are bad. why do we play them.

BUT ARCHERY IS FUN AS (frank) IN VR SO WHATEVER

Skyrim and the whol Elder Scrolls series is right up there with Red Dead Redemption as boring, overrated games I could never get behind.

i liked them all at the time but i'm now leaning heavily towards completely changing my opinion on them.

open world games are not good in general. you can't craft a decent story when things are too open ended, and you can't create a finely tuned gameplay experience when players have the option of going wherever they want. i don't mean you need tight hallways and stupid scripted explosions but something like the last of us wouldn't work at all in a completely open world.

i can't think of a single open world game with a good story. by good i mean better than some b tier action movie.

Well I don't think any open world/action game has a story that holds up to your smug ass standards, but I felt that games like GTA: San Andreas and Fallout: New Vegas were pretty good. The story can get lost but if you're looking for a tight ass little virgin narrative you're barking up the wrong tree.

Open world and sandbox get confused for the same thing a lot though. Most of the games we're talking about fall into that sandbox style.

Depending on your feelings of it, the first Mass Effect game is a pseudo-open world. The most recent one is "open world" but just a disaster if you have standards or taste. Dragon Age: Origins is sort of open-worldy in its way and tells a good story because it keeps some sense of being linear. Dragon Age: Inquisition really loses steam the bigger the world you unlock is.

The Ass Creed games I played that were "open world" ish were pretty good. 2, brotherhood, Black Flag and the one that took you into Turkey or whereever.

mass effect has an awful story. if it was a book or movie nobody with any taste would like it. it has good world building and some decent character interactions though and the combat is decent (even in the first one).

videos games with good gameplay have bad stories in general but they can get away with it so i don't really blame them. people praise uncharted and even the trash-tier "a way out" game i played recently. a way out is sharknado levels of bad.

new vegas is a fun game but the story is only good in the sense that it motivates you to continue playing. same deal with the witcher 3. take away the gameplay and the stories don't hold up at all.

Oh no how awful that the gameplay and stories are intertwined in such a way that one is only good with the other. What a catastrophe.

I just don't understand why you wouldn't expect the style of gameplay to affect the story and vice-versa.
