interesting. in this case, considering it was based on a true story, gibson was using the gore to illustrate the dichotomy of one being considered a coward while he went about performing his duties in such hellish conditions.

i do agree with one thing crims said, there was definitely a huge element of cartoonish characteristics in the portrayal of doss.

I remember someone in my keeper league going nuts over drafting Mara one year thinking he was getting a star and we were all just too stupid to see that.

he used to rent ice in Kamloops right after the hockey camp i would attend there. He'd usually ask a few guys to hang around just so he has living pylons to (frank) with. The camp had a lot of AAA, Jr A, and Dub kids. Maybe there were a few college kids.

It just demonstrated how big the gap was from a bunch of cocky kids who thought they were good, to someone who was actually good but not nearly good enough to be actually good.

He was so fast and strong it was insane. It was basically 1-vs-all out there and he was dangling and getting a shot off with 4 dudes all on him. Yet, in the NHL he was a "small" dude with average-below average wheels and a good shot, but struggled to get it off.

We had good goalies on the ice and he was beating them before they could react. One guy lucked into a glove save against him on a clapper and it broke the plastic inside the palm inside the glove.

Here's a guy who is like a AAAA player. Too good for the AHL but not good enough to stick on an NHL roster anywhere.

That and playing shinny against Sam Gagner are my two "(frank), I was not even close if I was twice as good as I am" moments.
